Is tomorrow the day? 🎅🏻🤶🏻

Do they even still do that? Putting a typical AC library on the HD2 while Christmas is on the main channel? It's not like anyone but us even knows it's there.
They did it last year and all previous years, for as long as I remember.

In other news, b101 only played 9 total songs in the 8am hour. Remember when MoreFm at 101.1 played 7 songs in a row?

Forget insignificant radio station Christmas music predictions, tomorrow (11/17) the second test flight of the world's largest rocket will be taking place from Texas around 7AM Central. There will be lots of live coverage via YouTube.

In the first 30 mins I heard:
  • A clearly edited sweeper to make "Philly's B101.1" say "Philly's B101" (Nice cost savings I'm sure!)
  • A weather bed fire with the voicetracked forecast starting at the end of the bed
  • A dry sweeper crashing into vocals of a song
I doubt it will impact ratings since they're the only game in town though... Merry Audacy Christmas Philly!

With all the commercials they play, I'm surprised they were even able to fit in nine.

While not at all saying they won’t see a lovely spike of some kind, nobody is the only game in any town. Radio is one content delivery system; there are many competing for ears and ad dollars (not to mention those in the subscription space).

There are certainly locations where a radio is the primary means of getting music. But even in office settings, where it tends to be more communal, that’s less universal than it once was. At my dentist’s office, the old days of one of the radio stations in town being piped through the speakers have given way to a TuneIn stream (and no, not a stream of a broadcast outlet, but a themed online-only channel). Many—by no means all, but many—cars have options from a simple Bluetooth connection to the advanced entertainment systems that make AM/FM just one of a plethora of choices.

Actual radios in homes give way to speakers that can run from the audiophiles’ dream setups to basic. I think in my home, we have two functioning old radios; neither is used. My in-laws have one, and never use the radio; it’s just there because my mother-in-law still enjoys some vinyl albums, and the tuner is along for the ride. The last few times I’ve had work done at the house, the contractors weren’t playing boombox radios; they had basic Bluetooth speakers streaming Spotify and Pandora.

There is always another game.

All valid and true points. To be fair, looking at things through the lens that this is, after all, a message board for discussing Philadelphia terrestrial radio, B101 can certainly be called "the only game in town" for Christmas music. That having been said, and to your point, I won't be listening to them. For the next several weeks, I'll be listening to my own curated Apple Music playlist, whether in my car or through my smart speakers at home.

i heard on the stream audacy christmas station promos for Connecticut (WRCH), San Diego (KXKY) and St. Louis (KEZK)

Seems odd for them to promote out-of-town stations--especially considering they're probably playing the exact same library--but I guess they have their reasons.

On Black Friday I detected the supermarket and mini-mart speakers up here first start in with the avarice.
I actually worked at 101.1 back in the older Eazy 101 days (around 1988-89-90). That was in the Bala Cynwyd building, second floor. Are they still there? The first year was fabulous. Wow. I made it to a top ten market. On a loud signal! One of three total program directors, plus one who wasn't even a PD, would call me in to do every shift and chore short of climbing the stick to change the tower bulbs.
Anyway, the recall here is all of the Andy Williams / Elmo-Patsy / Burl Ives / Mannheim Steamroller / Singing Mutts stuff being on 10-inch reels in the studio. And the sheer 24/7 tsunami went full force maybe just a few days before the 25th
They were my last full-time radio gig. The final few months I didn't even use an air name. My FCC license might still be on their wall.
Times have changed, eh ?
