Is WTKK making an effort to bring back Imus by championing his cause?

Has anyone tuned in to WTKK? It sounds like they are on the side of Imus? Are they going to make a pitch for him to launch from their station? Severin was leading the way. Repulsive Radio.

Nah, nearly every conservative talk show host in America is taking that stance right now, local and syndicated. Hannity, Beck, and the rest of them. They all agree that Imus's comments were out of place and yet, they all seem to fear that his firing is somehow going to censor their viewpoints.

This is exactly why I would expect Imus to end up on Fox News in the morning eventually. He had to go, but conservatives love him. The seminar line seems to be thus: "Why Imus and and not Sharpton and Jackson? Their apologies were enough, why is Imus the scape goat? This is bad for other conservatives."

I think Imus was not liked at NBC or CBS behind the scenes and the "your fired" finger was itchy on the trigger.

imho.

Laura Ingramm said somethihng obvious, so obvious I hadn't taken time til tonight to think much about it -

This incident was only one reason for the two networks to get rid of Imus. He'd been losing his edge since getting rid of his personal demons. Talk to 20-and-30 somethings, and up til these past two weeks, many had never heard of him.

Of course, the advertisers fleeing was the final straw.

Anyone read Howie today? You can practically read the glee in his voice.

You know what, I tend to agree with you. As this whole thing developed at the beginning of the week, I thought to myself, this would be the perfect out for CBS to put the I-Man out to pasture. The downside, who will they find to fill the vacancy. This may be the time now to make mornings LOCAL. And unfortunetley, CBS and other giants have chased away any potential talent, or failed to let any develope, whether it be talk or music oriented. IMO.

perfect opportunity for wrko to go for the throat.

so much for greater media's fake image as a family values broadcasters.
it's embarassing when their ceo publically sticks up for a guy who thinks
calling women w's and h's is fun radio. barnicle, severin, smyth and redo all deserve
each other.

Look ! WTKK 96.9 allowed Jay Severin to get away with his "AXE the Governor" remark against Governor Patrick. So, it is not a big jump to support Jay Severin's racially bigotted remarks.

"Look ! WTKK 96.9 allowed Jay Severin to get away with his "AXE the Governor" remark against Governor Patrick"

You have yet to provide any resonable explanation why that comment is anything other than hilarious.

Are these the types of airwaves you'd like to see? If anyone at any point of the country is offended by a radio comment they heard third-hand, that host should be taken off the air?

See Jessica Heslam article in today's Herald. Howie Carr, who was gleeful and got an entire week of talk about all
this, is quoted as saying :“Anybody who’s a conservative talk show host who doesn’t realize that they’re always under the gun is crazy. I watch very carefully what I say and I will continue to watch.”

Howie does have the "Scondras cough" and "La Cucaracha" horn sound effects, though. He has has a few
incidents in the past (the "raghead" comments after the OKC bombing come to mind.)

We are treading on a VERY slippery slope here. Morality is subjective and since we live in a free society, we have to choice to NOT listen to something we find offensive. What Severin said (or Imus, for that matter) is not punnishable by the FCC, so this is about what YOU feel is right. Why is YOUR opinion right?

I am offended by the anti-white lyrics of a lot of hip-hop music or the anti-white schtick or Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle, so you know what I do?? I don't listen or watch. I exercise my right to change the station.

Since some of this music is played on the radio, these songs should be held to the same standard as a talk show host, correct? Where is your anti-JAMN 94.5 post???

The hip hop community has done far more to damage the minority community than the poorly chosen words of a lilly white washed up radio hack. I never heard a woman referred to as a "ho" until it became "fashionable" from it being in rap songs.

Look how many gangster rap words have infiltrated our vernacular. For instance, when you "pimp" someone, you are championing their cause. Is is racist and offensive to use that word if you're a white radio host? Apparently not because it's said all the time. How about if you used it in another way? If you said Deval was "pimping" in his Caddy, is that racist or an acceptable term to use?

Severin is only "pimping" :) Imus' because he's a regular guest on the show.

Anyone remember Eddie Murphy's Velvet Jones character on Saturday Night Live in the 80s? He played
an entrepreneurial pimp who developed the "Velvet Jones School of Technology", by selling a book called
"I Wanna Be A Ho". Murphy spoofing black slang and culture was OK but how about if a white comedian
did the same thing (perhaps in blackface?)

>>Has anyone tuned in to WTKK?

Other than Laura Ingraham, no. She wasn't defending Imus at all and was taking to task those in the music industry who make big bucks by putting out songs that demean and objectify women. ("Why aren't they
being brought up, too?") She said some of the best selling music these days were artists who do this but that didn't make it right.
Bill Cosby at least is trying to knock down the violent, misogynistic "street culture" things, and bringing up
facts like (what he claims is a) 50 per cent drop out rate among blacks in the inner city. He calls for an end to "victimhood" and for more
responsibility by black Americans, and everybody. Ingraham and fellow TRN talker Jerry Doyle have been bringing this up. Rev. Sharpton was asked if he planned to go after the vulgar rappers and he did say he's trying, etc.

the only issue I have with hip-hop is it all gets lumped together... no distinctions are made. There is rap music made that has a positive message and also criticizes the misogyny and use of the "n" word... although I admit that the latter is the kind of hip-hop that sells the most.

... also, keep in mind that the audience for hip-hop is largely white these days.

good points and yes I realize both of those things. Have also heard rap sales are suffering these days but so is all of music thanks to downloads (and I include the legal kind; buy a song or two not the entire album...)

Raccoon, I think Howie Carr called them "towel heads" not ragheads, but it is the same slur re:
Oklahoma City, and the great journalist Carr doesn't even know the difference between the Monkees and
The Herman's Hermits, though the Monkees were and still are wildly popular on TV. Carr also told
Diana Ross his "favorite" song by her is one she never sang, "Stoned Love". For a journalist that is so
far off the map, Davey Jones being a familiar face (he allegedly called Davey "Peter Noone") and to say
to an artist on the phone - a superstar - that his favorite song is one she wasn't involved in - really
shreds his credibility. So when he says a "shock jock" thing like Towel Head it is because he knows nothing
(it turned out to be inaccurate) and he's just looking to get a rise out of people.

In pure Capitalism we the people can go to the sponsors and say we want a better informed host of an afternoon drive show. Entercom knows the audience are a bunch of sheep so they just let a has-been like
Carr continue to say dumb things (he "touched" the hand of an AIDS person. The Healing Hands of Howie
Carr? Or is that the Devil touching and gloating?)

===================
Fact is Severin, like Carr, is there to take up space and get ratings by default. These "public airwaves" force us to NPR, a dry format but at least it is pretty much accurate. Corporate America wants everyone to buy
XM and SIRIUS. They hate the thought of giving radio away allegedly for free no matter how many advertisers.

Don Imus could've played this better, as George Regan stated in the Globe; but Imus will be back just as
Opie & Anthony are back, just as Stern never left; a name is a name is a name and he had so faded out of the limelight this is the most exposure he's EVER had. He will come back from Rehab all penitent and looking to redeem himself and the sheep will embrace Don Imus again.

Don will then have O.J. Simpson on to talk about if O.J. Didn't Do It.

btw Boston Radio Watch says WTNT in Wash DC is also picking up Barnicle's temp 4 hour show which for
all we know could be permanent. Finneran vs. Barnicle. I'm thrilled, not. Actually I'm glad i work such a night shift that I usually don't get up till 10 am. I'm not missing anything.

Did I type ragheads? meant towel heads was what he had said.
As far as music is concerned, I hope Howie never sings again on air...

He may be a great journalist but not music journalist. Tell WTKK to hire Tai by the way who used to talk
to local musicians and comedians on his old WRKO night show.

Howie's ratings and ad buys aren't bad so I don't see him going anywhere else, unless GM gives him a better offer.

>> Corporate America wants everyone to buy
XM and SIRIUS.

And HD radio, don't forget that. THE PROGRAMMING IS FREE! (...right after you pay $200 for the receiver..)

"Howie's ratings and ad buys aren't bad so I don't see him going anywhere else, unless GM gives him a better offer."

Interesting. If you only got your news from some of the regular posters on this board, you'd think Howie was circling the drain.

Other "conservatives?" You ever listen to Imus? He endorsed John Kerry, called Cheney and Rumsfeld war criminals, called for them to be executed, calls Bush 43 the worst president in history, and fills his show with liberal politicians like Kerry, Dodd, Biden, etc. The most conservative guy Imus ever backed was Harold Ford Jr. Not to mention the litany of liberal pundits like Alter, Frank Rich, Oliphant and the like who made up his posse.

Imus is about as conservative as Mike Barnicle. Does anyone on this board consider Barnicle a conservative? Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, etc. sure don't.

I only heard a few parts of Monica Crowley's show Sat. Radio is purtrid on Saturdays, only thing to get my mind off driving on Saturdays doing errands. Anyway, she defended Imus.

If, they do bring him back, I doubt the cast of MSNBC will return.
