I know what the 93.5 FM station will do.

More than likely it'll be Classic Country and pattern themselves after their current set up in the Luverne area.

I don't know what 93.1 FM will do though.

Outside of doing Classic Country, Smooth Jazz and/or Upgrading the two CCM stations, I don't see any other format holes that need to be filled in the Gump. (WAY FM and The River)

Now concerning the 96.5 FM Move-In from Enterprise, I wish WVRV could get their hands on it and put their program on it.

This would give them a 250 watt signal and cover a bigger area with their awesome format.

If that doesn't happen, I would love to see another AM station get their hands on it and use it for fill in purposes. (WMSP, WMGY, WNZZ, WIQR, WLWI and/or WXVI)

Montgomery's getting translators, sure. No full-power stations yet.

The one full power application you noted (Pike Road) hasn't been approved, and might not get approval for a while. There's going to be a 'battle' for that full power FM that can be squeezed in at the 93._ area.
 
Love to hear your theory on this so-called "battle", Nate. Seems pretty open and shut, to me.
 
93.1 is a Full 6kw Class A FM licensed to Coosada. Liberty Broadcasting won the license in Auction 91. Cp application due by the end of the month. Ain't no "battle" there, boys. Any conjecture as to what will go on 93.1?
 
Could it possibly be the same company which owned Hot 105.7 in Jacksonville? (no, not Troy/Montgomery). That station, WHJX, I think was for a short time a Talk station, then became a Hispanic CHR station. However, the current Radio-Info market for Jacksonville lists it as being owned by West Jacksonville Baptist Church, so the assumption would be naturally the station would be religious, possibly still Hispanic. It's really difficult to determine the timeline of this particular station.
I think the Wikipedia entry for WHJX is woefully outdated. The Facebook page did have a whopping 3 Likes.

There is no Hispanic station (full time) anywhere nearby. Is there a market in the Gump for 24/7 Spanish - on FM? Might be worth a try.

Perhaps the 93.5 station could be Hispanic, or classic country with the sorta recent frequency switch of WQSI and the Tiger in east Alabama.

I thought there were other apps for stations near that dial position that hadn't been settled. My mistake.
 
Our friend was talking about another APP. I had found. That one was for a new station to be built in the Pike Road area, at 93.5. That station will be owned by Alatron of Clanton, if it ever pans out.

Since the 93.1 FM station is now coming to pass, I just don't see this APP. ever seeing the light of day. These two stations would be too close to each other, if Pike Road was allowed to be built out.

What kind of Hispanic population is there in Montgomery? Birmingham has a pretty big Hispanic demographic, but no one's done Spanish on FM there yet. At one point there was something like 4-5 simultaneous Spanish AMs in the metro but they've dwindled down to just 2 that I know of at this point.

As for 93.1 and 93.5, it's possible for the region to support them both if they're A class signals. I think the separation distance for them is only 19 miles. The current "center point" for each app is 20 miles apart.
 
93.5 is ONLY a proposed Rule Making to allocate 93.5 to Pike Road. When 93.5 comes out for public commentts other interested parties can also petition the FCC to assign that channel to a different community.
If 93.5 gets allocated to Pike Road or anywhere else, it will go to auction just like 93.1 did last month. I doubt if the petitioner has enought $$$$ to win the auction. 93.5 does not completely cover Montgomery. It is a long way from becomming on the air any time soon. Current FCC rules require the petitioner to also file an application, and pay the filing fee, as is the case with 93.5.
 
Does anyone know what's happening with WAMI 102.1 from Opp? Are they still trying to move up north to the Greenville area? The proposed coverage map looked like they could provide the area with a good, regional, 100kw replacement for Evergreen's old Power Pig 93.3 that moved to Fort Walton a few years back... the move which I assume opened up the 93.x frequencies on the dial for these new stations.
