It's 2015! Time to get rid of the '70s.

He did specify "rating", which is a percentage of the available audience, as opposed to "share", which refers to actual numbers listening. I don't see "rating" used much in radio, probably because it sounds so incredibly small. When we talk about radio ratings, it's usually expressed in "shares".

Programmers tend to look at shares, as they do reflect greater granularity. Sales deals almost exclusively with rating at the agency level.

For those not familiar with the terms and their differences:

"Rating" "share" and "Average Persons" all represent different ways of expressing the same number.

All are a measurement of the audience size in a given time frame. Rating is the percentage of the whole population listening to a station, while share is the percentage of just those who are listening to the radio. And average persons is that percentage converted into actual people.

A station in a market with one million people 12+ with a rating of 1.0 would have a 10 share and 10,000 average listeners. (Assuming that today's PPM average PUR of 10 is the reality in that market). And PUR, or Persons Using Radio, is essentially the "rating" for all the stations in a market combined or the percentage of total people listening on average.

4.0 I think you meant.

No. As semoochie correctly stated, I meant 0.4 rating.

The station is averaging a 5.0 share in the first half of the February book in 25-54. That is good for third in the demo.

So what's their playlist size now?

3-5-0 songs. Three hundred and fifty songs.

Don't worry, this won't turn into another long discussion.

But it is conclusive proof that the shorter consensus playlist works.
