The WVKO logo has the "V" being either the "peace sign" or "V for Victory" (Nixon, Churchill, etc.) depending on one's viewpoint.

I'd strongly bet that it signifies "victory," especially since we're heading into the big election year.

Just for the record, the Ed Schultz video linked to on page one is from his appearance here in November, when he hosted his MSNBC television show live from Columbus on both the night before and the night of our most recent election (in which SB5 was repealed). I was able to meet him the first night and gave him CDs of my two radio shows from the previous week, which featured what I had described on the air as anthems for the Occupy movement (songs such as "The Wheeler Dealers" by the New Christy Minstrels, "There Is A Voice" by Squeeze, "Save The Country" by the Fifth Dimension, "Turn It Around" by Husker Du, "We're Going Wrong" by Cream, "Take This Town" by XTC, "Let's Work Together (Let's Stick Together)" by Canned Heat, "Right Side Of A Good Thing" by the Fleshtones, "You Can't Win" by the Kinks, "Which Side" by Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, "Give A Damn" by Spanky and Our Gang, "We're Gonna Rise" by the Breeders, "It's Up To You" by the Moody Blues, "Here To Stay" by New Order, "The Times They Are A-Changin'" by the Byrds, "Bandwagon" by R.E.M., "Shout Above The Noise" by Penetration, "Don't Take No For An Answer" by the Tom Robinson Band, "I'm Cramped" by the Cramps, and "I Could Stay Here Forever" by Frank Black).

The matching times on the schedules of 1460 and 1580 may occure simply because of feed times from the networks. If you've ever worked with multiple schedules from different sources you will find that it is easiest to take live feeds as opposed to prerecording them to match a schedule. Just as Rush is most cominly aired at noon EST which is when he is fed live, so is the case for all other talkers feeds.

I understand how "feeds" work. I have a background in both comm and non com radio.

but to answer your question ; the schedule matches because Gary is using an INTERNET FEED from CLE I am willing to bet .. there is NO local studio for WVKO AM (or Wegener iPump satellite recv locally to pull in the Progressive talk programming from Dial Global) in fact I bet the Studio to Transmitter link for WVKO AM is at the 103.1 La Mega studios right next to St Gabriel's offices in UA.....

I just tuned in ... instead of :

"6:00 pm – 7:00 pm The Best of Bill Press
7:00 pm – 10:00 pm The Leslie Marshall Show"

I am hearing a simlucast of 103.1 WVKO-FM .... "La Mega"

BTW there was NO LEGAL ID for 1580 WVKO at the 7pm hour..

Now at 7:06 pm I am hearing "dead air" on 1580...

Now at 7:07pm its back to La Mega 103.1..

Back to more dead air at 7:11 pm ... (checked 103.1 is still airing La Mega)

Really guys.. If you want to be a "serious" radio station do it right... Even those folks over at 102.1/98.3 don't sound this cheap with their "winamp automation".. heck I know internet radio stations who sound better.....with no capital/funding or budget at all.

Spend some money.. do it right.. I am not against progressive Talk however poor sounding radio will not gain you any listenership.

I, too, am dismayed by what I am hearing on 1580 right now...there was a local "Blue State Diner" with the aforementioned Michael Alwood this morning, but they could not take phone calls yet...then the feeds of Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz had the 'drops' from WCPT (Chicago) on them...and now, from 3pm on it has been a simulcast of WVKO FM...I understand that this is not Clear Channel..but you can't expect to cultivate and keep listeners when they do not know what to expect. Why do I get a sneaking suspicion that 1580 may just stay with this Mexican music simulcast?

well let's say .. when the "LMA" of the progressive folks is up .. We KNOW now what WVKO-AM will air.. (I had suspected when the St Gabriel LMA was up that it would just simlucast 103.1 being both owned by the same group) ... I guess I was sorta right.

Trust me, I would love for Gary and Progressive Talk to succeed...I enjoy having 'different view points' to listen to..but you would think that on the second try they would 'have their stuff together'...at least the internet relay sounded cleaner than it did three years ago...

Won 49 states in 72: http://www.thebathtub.net/photos/uncategorized/2007/12/27/vforvictory.jpg

I was thinking more of this radio station logo from the same era.

Which happened to be where this guy got his first big break.

:D

Doesn't surprise me. I'm not a huge fan of WND, but it seems that anything in the media that is even moderately interesting has a Top-40 sensibility, and I specifically mean the upbeat brand of Top-40 of WIXY and WIXZ. Rush Limbaugh is basically a talk show with the same cadence. Too bad more people don't follow this formula - media would be a lot less boring if they did.
