Its not Columbus but Gary Richards is back with Liberal Talk, In Cleveland.

Gary Richards has been trying to purchase a radio station in Cleveland for two and a has years now. So, yesterday, right off the bat I knew Gary Richards had a hand in this new Progressive Talk radio station.

Still, We still don't know the real reason Gary Richards gave up on Progressive Talk radio in Columbus. He LMAed WVKO-AM until Christmas
of 2008. Mr Richards said at the time that Bernard Radio of Ohio was selling the station and license to St Gabriel Catholic Radio. St Gabriel Catholic Radio is still leasing the station from Bernard Radio of Ohio. The question is why didn't Gary Richards keep WVKO-AM on the air as a Progressive
Talk radio station in Columbus when he called the Progressive Talk format successful? Thousands of people were upset when Progressive Talk
radio WVKO-AM went away in Columbus three years ago. Maybe Gary Richards will answer that question here.

??? Do you really need all that explained to you again? It's been covered here ad nauseum. And you answered your own question. He had the rug pulled out from under him when St. Gabriel made a bid to buy the station. Turns out, they were never able to raise the 1.5 mil.

Frustrated liberal listener, Gary Richards has come to set you free.

The Euclid radio veteran is set to launch WABQ-AM 1460, a progressive talk station due to ramp up next Monday, August 1.

Good news for all the frustrated Columbus liberal listener. Radio veteran Gary Richards has come to set you free again in Columbus. He plans to bring back liberal talk radio back to Columbus.
As of January 1, 1012, WVKO-AM will once again be Progressive Talk radio.
I think he may be relaying WABQ-AM 1460, a progressive talk radio station Cleveland over WVKO-AM 1580.

Interesting. It's good timing of course, since the 2012 elections will probably generate more interest than usual in any shade of political talk.  They certainly should include Ed Schultz, since he has an entertaining presentation and also has focused on Ohio a lot on TV, making multiple live appearances here.

Ed Schultz will defiantly be on the new WVKO-AM broadcast schedule. He will probably be happy to be back on a Columbus radio station because he has made several appearance in Ohio over the last several years. It seemed so odd to me he didn't have a Columbus affiliate
when he in town last September and hsn't for the last three years.

Here is a youtube video of his last appearance in Columbus last September:

I'm thinking GR will relay WABQ-AM and will rehire his old news director to do news breaks in the morning. Shawn Gilbo did the evening news on
the old WVKO-AM but he may not be interested in doing the news for GR again. I have since ran into Shawn at a festival last Summer and he told me he won't be posting on here anymore after being permanently bared from the Radio-Info.com board.
This was because he consistently violated the rules and policy's of the radio-info.com board. Still, i would like to see some of his posts.

Well, they've hit up the old WVKO mailing list to announce the return of the format on January 2nd.

The website is in maintenance, but their Facebook page is VERY active here:

I hear that Gary is somehow involved (as gabigley has posted here previously), though I don't have any verification of this information... I'm told it is a "short term LMA", whatever that means.

Short Term LMA = Gone after 2012 Election...???

My only hope is this time around... It's not a low quality internet stream of another radio station pumping out the Progressive Talk.... If your going to do radio.. do it right. (Hopefully they pick a place other than Downtown Columbus with no satellite signal to set up shop)

I am not a prog fan but I do wish them the best this time around ... Something "different" on the airwaves of Columbus is always welcome.. I am all for diversity.

I don't know, but in this case, it makes as much sense as anything.

Perhaps instead of public Internet feeds of the shows this time, Gary will simulcast Talk 1460 up here! :D

(cue the "you're a right winger against our mission" replies...to someone who has been an admitted fan of Stephanie Miller :D)

You know... That's looking very likely ... I looked at the "schedule" for Talk 1460 and the schedule posted on the WVKO 1580 website.. they match exactly with exception of nothing "listed" for 6a-9a M-F on the WVKO page.. So I would not be shocked to hear "AM 1460" on 1580 come Jan 2nd.

With the likely exception of plugging in Bill Press 6-9 AM instead of WABQ's local morning show.

It is indeed Gary, as there's a new Cowtown Communications copyright notice on the page. He has not yet done a redesign, like he did for 1460's site.

I would guess that the lineup here is still being developed, but I really don't expect much of a difference between the two, or much different from the previous incantation of Progressive Talk, from before the St Gabriel era, my guess is that Gary won't change much from what he did before, same styles, same people, etc.

Hopefully he will be able to get some sales people who know how to sell a concept and not just cpm.
