Yup. It's official. No more Saturday radio column in the NY Daily News. The paper cut out space for that department. Saturdays column was a staple in the paper for over 25 years. Most times it was short, but it will be missed.

Andrea,
To that Andrea, I give you major respect as well. CBS turning into "Jack" was WAY MORE catastrophic than when Hot 97 flipped to hip-hop. I knew oldies fans were core to their music...I just didn't realize HOW core. It took you, as well as supporters such as Allan Sniffen and the many fans that listened to CBS-FM to make noise and eventually get something done.
I can only wish that there is a "you or me" that is a country music fan and do some sort of coalition to get the music back not just on terrestrial radio, but on a standard position...not relegated to HD.
Thank you Andrea!

PS: Agreed.....not seeing a Saturday column anymore just doesn't feel right.

Well...aside from the sweet compliments, this is what it is, in a nutshell: For the "two years", I kept the hope alive in my heart, I kept the dream alive, even when everybody thought I was a fruitcake about it (actually, David made me a "star" - when our community did the rally 6/22/05, my name was in the NEXT DAY's Daily News!!). But really - even though I was SO ABNOXIOUS about certain things not being what they were when the station came back 7/12/07....I have come to a point where I can ACCEPT AND ENJOY today's CBSFM - and I can still be "Andrea from Brooklyn" and ENJOY IT!!
And what also helped....for the "two years", there was an INCREDIBLE ARRAY of "happenings" within OUR community that filled the void for me, musically and radio-wise (including a 6/3/07 phone call to Bobby Jay on B103 that is not to be forgotten....) - but like William DeVaughn said all those years ago, I am "VERY thankful for what I've got" - thankfully, one of the things I AM thankful for is CBSFM - best summarized, to me, by Ron Lundy the day WE came back, "it is my station, it is your station, it is OUR station" and those are words I live by!!
But really, I wish you SO the best in getting the victories for the dance music community, just like the successes we have had and continue to have in the oldies community...

I'm starting to see the "fruits" of the work of the coalition happen as well. I was interviewed last Friday (May 23rd) on the air by Star during the "Star and Buc Wild" show on Pulse 87 along with being on other radio shows as well. I want to continue to do whatever I can. However, there still is a lot of work that has to be done....a lot of it, internally within dance music since there is infighting going on for whatever reasons that I have no idea about. That sort of infighting will hurt more than help and something has to be done to stop it...or at the very least come to a middle ground for the sake of the music, despite personal feelings. It's something I come to terms with every day. But regardless...we wage our battles!![]()
and i hope VERY SOON that the dance music community will experience the same kinds of successes that we in the oldies community have had since 7/12/07....
