I call to Univision Radio that Señora Música with Douglas Peña on La Kalle says it's now over since 12/28/08.

So I would to thank very, very much for listening Señora Música with Douglas Peña on La Kalle by playing Spanish Classic Hits of all-time that I enjoyed and it's wonderful and I'm so proud of that, so see ya!

So La Kalle will be played Tropical music of all-time like La Mega not Balada anymore.

So by this year to finish the decade 2000s, SBS will get Clásica 93.1 on HD2 by playing Spanish Classic Hits of all-time not HD1 because HD1 belong to 93.1 Amor by playing Spanish Today's AC of all-time, so stay tuned and aún hay más (like Siempre en Domingo).

that sucks that it's over. my mom like many moms favorite is the Spanish Classic Hits. La Kalle needs to figure out what they are. Thier all over the place and have an identity crisis ! I can't listen to them on weekends, it's all over the place.

Now the photograph of Douglas Peña on La Kalle website schedule is removed and replaced by Club & Music 6-10AM by Sundays instead, farewell Douglas, I miss you. ;D

La Kalle reminds me SO much of 92 'KTU back in the 70's.

When La Kalle launched, reggaeton was beginning to burst into the scene stateside. The music was already big in Puerto Rico but the New York Latino audience grabbed a hold of it up here. At the time "hurban" (Hispanic Urban) was a new format with stations launching in Texas and California. So when La Kalle hit, it was mainly about reggaeton and did well in the beginning. Comparing this to 'KTU from the 70's, 'KTU was riding high getting in on the disco craze.

However, reggaeton became oversaturated. It was the same friggin "BOOM-BA-DA-BOOM-BOOM, BOOM-BA-DA-BOOM-BOOM" beat on EVERY single track! Just as fast as the music got here, it was just as quick for the music to be burnt. I think that 4-4-4-EIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT Optimum commercial put the last nails in the "coffin" for the sound. That's why you don't hear as much reggaeton anymore on La Kalle as well as expanding on other genres of Latino music and that may be why the station is struggling trying to find that "identity". In the case of disco, I don't know if it was oversaturation rather than a backlash that happened from rock fans with "Disco Sucks" movements. Nevertheless, 'KTU still played rhythmic music during the 80's (kind of like a Hot 103/97 predecessor) but eventually it couldn't last and in 1985, the station became K-Rock.

I'm surprised at you, Tony - you of all people...blaming that Optimum commercial for shutting down the doors of reggaeton in New York? I just thought the commercial was cute yet tacky... :D

That commercial was OVERKILL!!! ::) Many people were annoyed by it. And for me, I was never into reggaeton. Plus, I used to work for Cablevision and I wish that job on NO ONE.

The Reggaeton boom might be over but the music is here to stay. Last year's best selling Latin album was from Wisin Y Yandel. As of this week there are 3 Reggaeton artists with albums on Billboad's top ten Latin.

The "dembow" beat that was oversaturated in Reggaeton songs has been phased out.The last year and a half has seen the rise of the electro flow sound in Reggaeton. Artists like Arcangel,Nejo Y Dalmata among others have been popularizing these beats.

Oh yeah, the music isn't totally gone. It's just that the peak era, that happened around the time La Kalle launched, is over. At least the reggaeton artists realize that they have to create something new to keep it as relevant as possible.

That commercial was horrible. I as a White-Boy fan of Reggaeton agree. And HOT 93.7 here in Hartford is mixing in non-reggaeton Latino music during its Sunday Night Reggaeton show. (I don't have an HD-Radio so I have no idea if it's the same on their HD-2 Channel). Furthermore La Puertoriquenmisima AM 1120 here in Hartford dropped its 4 hour Saturday night Reggaeton show right after Christmas after launching it in September.
