It's official: Steve Chamraz is the co-anchor of WTMJs 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts

Here is the replacement for George Mallet

WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) made it official Thursday, naming Steve Chamraz co-anchor of the NBC affiliate's 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

Chamraz has been filling as co-anchor with Carole Meekins on the newscasts since February. He's been at WTMJ since 2011, after a stint at the station in the 1990s as an intern.

He formally succeeds George Mallet in the anchor chair; Mallet was let go by WTMJ in February.

Chamraz will also continue as the lead anchor on "The Now," the station's 6:30 p.m. news show.

The decision is one of the first major on-air moves since Jeff Kiernan, WTMJ's former news director, rejoined the Scripps-owned station in March as senior director of local content.
