J.J. Jeffrey, legendary Top 40 DJ (WRKO, WLS etc) and radio station owner, dead at 84

Back in the 70s I had the pleasure of meeting J.J. at WOKQ in Dover, NH (then a Fuller-Jeffrey station....). He critiqued one of my airchecks and
gave me some sage advice on how to better my presentation. A lasting --- and fond --- memory!
(Cue St. Peter, on J.J.'s arrival: "Now. ladies and gentlemen ---- J.J. Jeffrey!" ;)

He was part of the original lineup at WRKO Boston when it flipped to Top 40 from talk (as WNAC) in March 1967, wasn't he? I think he was on middays after Al Gates' morning show.

CT......
Monday, March 13th, 1967 at 6 AM, to be exact....;)
The first song played was "Something Stupid" by Frank and Nancy Sinatra --- it was the #1 Top 40 song that week....
I got up early to record the switchover....on a Sony 3 inch reel-to-reel....Somewhere I still have that tape.....
LOL! Al Gates ---- and "Feathers"!! Unforgettable!!:)

The original WRKO lineup in March 1967:

6:00 - 9:00 am Al Gates (formerly with WIXY, Cleveland and WPRO-AM, Providence)
9:00 am - 12:00 pm John Rode (everyone seems to have forgotten this guy)
12:00 - 3:00 pm Joel Cash (formerly with WBZ-AM, Boston)
3:00 - 6:00 pm J J Jeffrey
6:00 - 9:00 pm Arnie Ginsburg (actually never on-air because of dispute with WMEX; the shift was jockless)
9:00 pm - 12:00 am Chuck Knapp

"Those were the days, my friend...."

R.I.P. I loved WFIL 560. He was one of two or so dj's left from that era. Supposedly Frank Kingston Smith, originally from Philly is still with us. He also worked there. Now he's in the Phoenix, AZ area.
