Jack Harris out at WFLA/iHeartMedia Tampa Bay

I remember when the scheduling shifted him to 5a-7a with Ryan Gorman stepping in, I wondered if they were slowly phasing JH out.

Jack Harris was and still is another Tampa broadcast legend. Shame he didn't get opportunity to hang up the headphones with some more respect.

I now see how Heartless Iđź’—is, not even one more show to say goodbye to his fans.
Maybe he would not retire as 81yo.

The WGUL appearance on Tuesday was pushed back. Per the Tampa Bay Times:
The Salem Media Group wanted to host a tribute show for Harris on AM860 and 93.7 FM. It was originally to be this week, then pushed to next week. Harris now thinks it might be April 14 if it happens at all.
Supposedly there was also the option to have one final show on 970, so says IHM now after the fact, but Harris says that offer didn't happen.

The full Times article and all its paywall goodness are here:

Roger Schulman's on WGUL as well, so it'll be a little reunion of sorts if Harris lands there. Given the rest of the landscape in TB radio, I would expect that to be where he's going.

He said there is a 6 month non-compete, if so, wouldn't that mean he had some contract ? Then, he'd be paid out to the end of it unless he had agreed to some other terms in order to keep the job when he renewed.

Never heard of an "at-will" job with a non-compete, but guess anything is possible. Either way, a low down way to can someone with all those years on the air and not able to say adios to all the loyal listeners.
