Jam’n 95.7FM doesn’t sound like a hip hop station

What are they doing with this station. Their jingles sound like a throwback station. I just heard black box to EMF. A format change in the works? I also notice that 93.3 and 95.7 don’t have mix shows anymore at 12pm or 5pm. Hmmmm

iHeart does call it "San Diego's Hip Hop & Throwbacks". Perhaps what you are hearing is a tweak in the format.

Mixshows are becoming more rare everywhere, as the more talented DJs have tired of doing them for radio and are sticking with the clubs. And there are very few new talents to take over that role. As I noted in another thread, much of the audience has decided the novelty has worn off and would rather hear songs in their entirety.

I expect mixshows outside of nights will be disappearing at a faster rate now.

Jam'n is doing a Throwback Weekend. On Tuesday, it's back to the regular format.

I bet if the OP had listened for a while instead of panic-posting here, he would have known that.

As for the other two stations, I think my observation is relevant since he is talking about mixshows at lunch and in afternoon drive. Those are becoming more of a listener turn off and stations are becoming much more likely to maintain the "non-mixshows" format until at least 7:00pm.

I need to move back to LA. They still have mix shows on a lot of radio stations out there. The only new one is the fuego mix at 5pm on La Invasora 99.7FM which is now competing with PartyMix 98.9FM!

I also feel like mix shows kinda get tiring when there isn’t a lot of new content to mix with anymore. Look at the top 40 stations right now, a lot of new songs come and go and a lot of it is still songs that came out a year ago
