WWE wrestler James “Kamala” Harris has died. WWE confirmed his death on their official webpage He was 70.

The WWE statement did not say the cause of death but according to a Facebook post by Kenny Casanova, the writer who co-authored Harris’s autobiography, the wrestler died of the coronavirus. The Washington Post said that Harris suffered had many health issues and that both his legs were amputated in recent years due to complications with diabetes.

Standing at 6’7″ and weighing 380 pounds, fans knew Harris as wrestling superstar “Kamala” or “The Ugandan Giant”. Kamala was characterized by an African mask, warpaint and a loincloth. He would enter the ring barefoot and barely speak any words and was very primal as he terrorized his opponents. He was very much a fan favorite as he wrestled in the Mid-South, World Class Championship Wrestling, WCW and WWE until 2006

Almost definitely nothing, other than timing.

Mr. Harris took the stage name "Kamala" when he worked with Jerry Lawler's wresting promotion in the early 80s.
Senator Harris was born in 1964, and was in college at Howard University when "Kamala" began wrestling with that name. The odds are highly remote that James Harris or Jerry Lawler ever encountered Kamala Harris while she was a teenager.
 
When I first heard of the senator running for president I had the thought about the wrestler since he was from the Memphis area, not knowing they had the same last name, but there's a difference in how they pronounce the name.

He never used his actual name when wrestling as Kamala. Before being given the gimmick by Lawler, though, he worked in several Southern promotions as "Sugar Bear" Harris.
 
This has to be the strangest coincidence I've ever heard, even more so than the fact that there was an Ian Fleming, who played Sherlock Holmes in the 30s or that I personally know two separate people named Russell Bohannon!
 
Somehow I doubt JFK's parents were fans of Edward Kennedy Ellington, the jazz bandleader.

There was a children's song with the words "ride Sally ride" but the astronaut was 14 when the song "Mustang Sally" was written. The children's song had some influence on the song but I don't know if the astronaut's parents got the idea from the children's song.

OK, Edward and Kennedy are "fairly" popular names but what makes you think that Joseph and Rose weren't fans of Duke Ellington?

When Teddy was born the bandleader wasn't that famous except in Harlem and places like that. Do you really picture an uptight rich couple knowing this man's music?

I have not made a study on Duke Ellington, so I take back my point. I'm intrigued however that you refer to "Mustang Sally", as a children's song.

It occurred to me that this is no way to pay tribute to the life of James "Kamala" Harris and I was out of line to continue to do so.
