January 2012 Ratings for San Jose and San Francisco.

KGO-AM should be owned by Merlin since they are operating the newscasts exactly like WEMP 101.9 FM in NYC. :mad:

Look the News on KGO is poorly operated compared to KCBS 740/106.9.
Look at New York City's books
WINS 1010 and WCBS 880 still beats them in January 2012

WCBS880 2.8
WINS 3.7
WEMP .7

No, we can't, for several reasons. First is that not enough time has passed yet for the format to sink in and become a listener habit. Second, we don't know how the demographics are going to land. A 2.9 share overall with a 4.0 in ages 25 to 49 is going to beat out a 4.0 share overall with a 2.9 in ages 25 to 49 from a sales standpoint; and it's all about sales, after all.

I would be shocked if KGO is doing better 25-49 than 6+.
 
As I've mentioned in other threads, I don't believe the lower ratings are a problem for KGO, they expected them. They've significantly cut costs, that combined with a marketing/sales strategy that places ads across all of their stations means they'll make more money even though they have lower ratings. It's a gutless strategy of-course, but they don't give a hoot about the lower ratings, all they care about is the bigger checks.
 
Look at where 860 & 1550 are in the beauty contest, man they are nowhere to be seen! How are they doing in demo? Why do they even turn these stations on? How are Ronn's numbers doing in the money demo's?

I'd also be interested in Ronn's numbers. He used to be a part of my daily routine, now I only checkin once every few weeks and continue to be disappointed. IMHO, he is almost monotone and the topics are boring. He also seems to introduce a new topic every break or so, there's no time for discussion.

If anyone has access to his ratings I'm curious whether or not he's holding up. My guess is that, while a lot of people were rightly pissed off at the station, and his comments, after the layoffs, he probably still has enough of a following to be a high point in KGO's ratings book.
 
Question/comment re the Santa Rosa breakout:

The listing for KDFC seemed odd, to be at 0.0 for the past two quarters, which is since they bought the license to one of the only three transmitters in the wine country that puts out a class B or stronger signal, in Angwin. 'Til I realized that Santa Rosa must be one of those smaller Arbitron markets where non-commercial stations are not included in the summary, and the 0.0s reflect KDFC switching from commercial to non-commercial status and frequencies.
Does that mean Sonoma County is still a diary market? And does Artibron have a transparent formula for combining diaries and people meter results? That would seem as hard to swallow as an apples-and-oranges smoothie.
I'd love to see what the non-commercial ratings reflect in Sonoma County (but, alas, I don't have access to any of them at this stage in my career). Particularly to see how well KQED-FM does on its Santa Rosa translator vs. main frequency, and if KRCB-FM is going to show an audience increase with their long-overdue signal boost. And if KPFA fares better (with a strong signal up there) share-wise, like KGO does, in Sonoma County versus the Bay Area counties.

The Bay Area needs a Country music station worse than another CHR or Rhythmic! We already have too many of those!

Country has been tried and tried again. It just doesn't seem to work in the Bay Area (with the exception of KRTY in San Jose: are they still around). Is it that its not being done right or just shouldn't be done.

Yes, KRTY is still around today, but I think we need a Country music radio station that covers the entire Bay Area!
