Javier Soto joins KNXV as Evening Co-Anchor with Katie Raml, 6/13/22

Perhaps not the best use of Javier Soto. Based on observation and his
upbeat personality, it seems like mornings would be a better fit. Nick
Ciletti or Justin Pazera would seem to fit better in the afternoons/evenings.

The interesting thing is that 3/5 tried Javier in the evenings from time to time (subbing for Jared or Brandon) and decided not to move him to evenings. Well, perhaps 15 knows better. I just wonder how the Soto/Raml pairing will work. Also, ABC15's style is polar opposite to 3/5, tending to be more no-nonsense rather than the warm and fuzzy family.

I guess we shall see tonight...

To all the folks out in Phoenix; How do you feel about Javier joining KNXV?
It sounds like a better fit for him than 3/5 under Gray, which has been deteriorating under the new owners. KTVK/KPHO does still run a serious news operation, but they delve into the fluff (paid features and gratuitous self-promotion) a bit too often. Overall, Scripps' 15/61 is becoming the station to watch for serious news. I still watch both, but I'm tuning into 15/61 more and more.

I posted previously all the reasons why it's a win/win for KNXV & for him, & he deserves it. He's done everything right & was rewarded for it. IMO, Katie & Javier will quickly learn how to mirror each other & it'll be good.
IRL, Javy's a serious, smart guy & he knows exactly when to use his sense of humor, and when not to...just like Steve Irvin. I'm happy for him! šŸ˜

I've lived here nearly 20 years and ABC15 has always had a serious tone in all time parts(remember "less chit-chat, more news in the mornings"). I'm sure Javier will do a solid job and, if Raml/Soto doesn't work out, they can move Kaley to evenings.

Honestly, it's a great promotion for Javier. He's gone from secondary morning anchor to main evening anchor. Who would turn down that position?

Love getting everyones take. I have watched Phoenix news for awhile via online. My take is when KTVK lost it ABC affiliation and went Indy. It did a great job being locally owned and even better under Belo. When KTVK/KPHO merge seems to be the downfall. I was shocked that Nexstar didn't snag KTVK since at the time they owned KASW. That would of made alot of sense. KTVK/Channel 3 seem to have a better product vs. KPHO. KPHO just seem to be the bottom feeder in the market. They started off strong when getting the CBS affiliation , but over the years it seems Meredith killed all their stations. KNXV has grown and has gotten better. It differently seem to be the better station in the market. KSAZ is FOX owned and seem like other FOX owned stations. KPNX has fallen due to TEGNA killing all their stations as well too.

Well...
First: happy for Javier. We probably will never know if he was trying to get a AZ Family evening anchor and was turned down. He is banking on himself and ABC15 had an opening. (It seems) Javier has a personality that would fit with anyone. We'll see how it works with Katie.
When Jonathan Elias left ABC15, Steve Irwin was promoted from mornings. It wasn't a stretch to think that Nick or Justin would be promoted. Or Kaley. Or Faye Fredricks. ABC wanted to make a splash and hiring Javi was it.
I said this in the other post and it was taken the wrong way. Javier leaving AZ Family and going to ABC15 is the biggest anchor move this year, and probably the biggest since Kent Dana went from 12News to CBS5. Sure Dana was a Phoenix living legend and he was primary anchor to primary anchor. But just discussing moves, Javier is a big deal.

For us avid TV watchers, it was a couple. However, bear in mind that Javier was a secondary am anchor on 3tv.

If you want to see how short Javier is, take a look at the pics from the going away party given by the 3TV folks on FB. He is shorter than almost everyone in the pictures and half the height of some of the guys.

Javier Soto earned his evening anchor position on KNXV. On KTVK, Soto filled in practically every time slot; many times moving back & forth AM to PM. He has the professional attitude that should prove to be a huge asset on Ch. 15.
As mentioned earlier, Javi knows precisely when to be serious and when to flash that contagious smile. Good luck to a hard working man.

I hate to dump cold water on the significant number of people here that like Javier but, to me, his voice is very irritating. I know he can't do anything about that. His delivery and composure are just fine but I just can't get beyond that voice.
