Jaxon Moves to iHeartMedia's ALT 104.5 in Philadelphia

The same format? Nope. Do they cross-cume significantly? Absolutely. That's why 104.5 is issuing a press release about Jaxon having a spot (albeit a small one) on their airwaves.

Close to half the spins at 93.3 are given to songs that have charted at alternative at some point.

It appears 104.5 might try to evoke some Y100 nostalgia, which in & of itself is not a bad idea. The programming changes announced in the press release are baby steps, in my eyes, and will only give 104.5 a very minor boost.

My take on that is air talent is an attraction at MMR. The same can't be said for 104.5.

Adding an actual personality to 104 might backfire.

That's an easy question to answer - the stock was undervalued and oversold at the time and I was confident that I would make a decent profit within a short time (and I did). I only bought a few thousand dollars worth of their stock, if I remember correctly. There was never any intention on my part to hold onto those shares for more than a year.

That's a much different situation than relying on broadcast radio as a long-term source of primary personal income.

"Putting a highly regarded and popular air talent on for only 1 hour daily so that folks who have a history of drawing meager ratings can retain multi-hour air shifts seems like a great idea to me!"

THIS is the most insightful post of the thread right here.

I'll be curious to see how deep they go with the playlist. Hoping there's at least 2 interesting/deep cuts an hour and it's not just the standard playlist minus anything from 2000 on.

Was shocked during the "Top Alt" countdown they did at the end of '23 to hear Catherine Wheel's "Black Metallic" and some other random cuts thrown in. Not expecting to hear anything like Dramarama or King Missile (miss my old FM106.3 WHTG days), but would be great to hear some cuts like:
  • "State of Love and Trust" / "Breath" from Pearl Jam
  • "Stars" by Hum
  • "Fascination Street" / "Boys Don't Cry" / "Pictures of You" by The Cure
  • "Down In It" / "Terrible Lie" from Nine Inch Nails
  • "Feel The Pain" by Dinosaur Jr.
  • "Pretty In Pink" by Psychedelic Furs
  • "Popular" by Nada Surf
  • "There She Goes" by The La's
  • "Girlfriend" by Matthew Sweet
  • "Don't Change" / "The One Thing" by Inxs
But, setting expectations that it'll somehow be Smashmouth, Third-Eye Blind and Alanis Morrisette as the first three played... hah...

So far it's REM's "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" and Deftones' "Change", but an interesting note is Jaxon and the piece of imaging between the songs referred to the station as simply "one-oh-four-five"

Followed by Weezer's "My Name is Jonas" and again, just "one-oh-four-five"

Am I reading WAY too deep into that too? It's "Post-Modern...Radio 104.5" No mention of "Alt"

To be honest, I've heard a couple of those spiked in over the past couple of months. The La's and Matthew Sweet specifically. I think I heard Dinosaur Jr. mixed in too. Regular rotation... no specialty weekend or anything.

Unfortunately, looks like WRFF's "recently played" feature isn't catching everything. No REM or Fastball on the list... Wonder why?

First show wasn't bad. You could tell the hour was tracked/edited. Felt a little awkward next to the more conversational delivery of folks like Amber and Jessie.

Also, no mention of the show on the website or a post on socials that I've seen mentioning or promoting the show at all. The website still has the old schedule saying Jessie should be on-air right now.

If there's a show dedicated to 80s and 90s alt on WRFF now, they could just flip the station to that or a WDAS-AM simulcast considering the terrible ratings it has (2.1 in the Jan. 24 books).
