WOW...has anyone seen how many currents The Sound plays now? They for sure are not AAA anymore!

The Sound is no longer considered to be a "AAA" format`

Radiojomo, you must be looking at old stats from Mediabase. They now just play a 'trace' of new material. Since 1 am today up to 10 am, The Sound has played a total of four new/current tracks, all from established artists. Magnificent-U2; Complicated Shadows-Elvis C; Why I am-Dave Matthews Band; and Restless Heart Syndrome-Green Day. All from the respective artists' latest album release.

IOW they are gold-based and note there are no new acts on the playlist. Check it out yourself on their website or on Yes.com.

I heard it through the grapevine that in May a decision was made by upper management (which, btw, does not include PD Dave Beasing and MD Haley Jones) that they are taking out currents in order to 'superserve' the core audience.

That core audience is my guess 60-70% different from what it was April-July 2008.

The problem is the audience is up 60% since they went all gold. That's what happens when you "superserve" your audience.

Yes they went the right direction for ratings which is, to me, a sad commentary on the radio listening audience as it is composed today. Same ol same ol same ol, whether classic hits, CHR, AC, or classic rock.

That would be a gain wouldn't it. I though they were below 30th place before...
