JERRY BLAVAT AND RON JOSEPH (RJ) DID A COMMENDABLE JOB HOSTING MOVIE DOCUMENTARY

Saturday night the WILDWOOD FILM FESTIVAL premiered a music documentary titled the "WAGES OF SPIN", about philadelphia's music and radio tv scene from 1952 to 1962.

Jerry Blavat traced Bob Horn's contribution and invention of a popular local program bandstand on channel 6.

Ron Joseph (RJ) took the era from Dick Clark's inception after Bob Horn and Jerry Blavat departed, and the program went national in 1957 on the ABC television network. RJ stayed on with the program on ABC for five years daily as a regular performer.

Both local radio personalities, Jerry Blavat and Ron Joseph (RJ) did a great job recounting stories behind the scene of their tv radio hero they befriended and how the show grew to natiional popularity for many years.

Others in the documentary included:

Beach Boys, Dovells, Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker, Charlie Gracie, Bill Webber, Ed Hurst, Johnny Carlton, and Sally Starr.

Can someone tell me how I can get a copy of the documentary? I can't find it online.

Channel 7 is Rj's ownership once again?
Honey lets bring back skip and mike phillips back on Channel 7

I've been an avid fan of American Bandstand as well as the original Bandstand. I would classify myself as an expert although I don't know it all. But, I can name dancers, producers, cameramen, soundmen, owners and true stories. I can honestly say that was and am a super educated fan .
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................WHO THE HECK IS RON JOSEPH ?

At least RJ has a loooooooong established career in this business. some brokered and some paid. still established. the people that mock him, ie, the buffoonish nobodies at the radioracket and their very few listeners are overwhelmingly nobodies, just fans of radio who follow and take their cues from the hosts to mock RJ. most we're not even born, and know nothing about the man but get their info from the court- jesters at the racket. how sad.

The fact that people have to find out who RJ is from such a lowly Internet radio show as you see it proves just how much of a nobody Ron Joseph truly is.

Hi Dennis! At least the show gets more people than your own Internet radio oldies show - what station is it on again? ???

Great, this cat fight is going to add a lot to the board and this thread.

To get things back on track, I attended the film festival, which has venues spread around town. It's a lot of fun. Since I no longer live in the area, it was nice to get back for a few days. "Wages of Spin" was a minor film, albeit a nice one and debuted Saturday afternoon as I recall. It was a good film, as good as some of the documentaries I've seen that were nominated for Academy Awards. It would be nice if the Philly area could get this kind of honor. Good luck to the producers, I hope they make it.

As for who was in the film, I vividly remember Jerry Blavat (a really nice person), Dick Clark (also always very nice to me) Charlie Gracie (he's great, even Paul McCartney acknowledges his talent) and "the usual suspects." A really enjoyable film, very nicely done.

However (wait for it...), if RJ was in the film, he must have been in the background as I don't remember seeing him or hearing his name. Maybe he was carrying Blavat's CDs.

how would you know that DJ? stick to something that you know about, like your insect brokered station that has the worst programs ever.

Re: JERRY BLAVAT AND RON JOSEPH (RJ) DID A COMMENDABLE JOB HOSTING MOVIE DOCUMEN

Hey, DooWopVault, how many listeners do YOU have?

And since when did "buying" a radio gig ever make RJ a "local radio personality?" Blavat is, at least, still crankin' after all these years and, apparently he can still do it ... well.

Others of your ilk can't get a paying radio job, let alone sponsors for a poor "brokerism" show that's non-existant and as for your Internet show, you have how many listeners? I see no blip on the server radar for the DooWopVault. Or, are you satellite these days?

Also, last I checked, didn't you have to broker the time for your INTERNET RADIO show as well to get a slot?

Incidentally, when are you on Rockit' Radio? You seem not to be listed anymore.... No funding?

for your info joe, I did not broker my time, I was given my slot from an audition tape that I sent in. in the next month, now that got my equipment back, I will be opening my OWN low power am station hooked up to the internet. It will cover all of south philly so as to get the local businesses to pay for spots, and on the internet for those that can't get the signal. like I said before joe, when I was on WURD, in two weeks, I had over 700 listeners. not bad for the new boy on the block 10:00 at night on URD.

I bet this was back in the time of WURD's 40 watt night power as opposed to the 105 watt level they now have. Still a case of the wanna-bes thinking they're better than what's out there.

105 watts? Holy cow! That’s coast to coast coverage. Delaware river coast to the Schuylkill river coast.

Re: JERRY BLAVAT AND RON JOSEPH (RJ) DID A COMMENDABLE JOB HOSTING MOVIE DOCUMEN

Yeah, they are, dave. how do you think the wanna bes became somebody? by dreaming about being in the business. like you did at one time dave. do you remember ? you we're a wanna be. everyone in every profession at one time was a wanna be. are you saying that people should not dream!!! remember this dave, professionlism is in ones attitude, not in the amount of time doing the job. and judging the attitude on the boards, some people are very unprofessional. Re: JERRY BLAVAT AND RON JOSEPH (RJ) DID A COMMENDABLE JOB HOSTING MOVIE DOCUMEN

Tell you what ... not only did many of us dream about being in radio, but we DID something about it to develop talent ... not merely dream about it...or "buy" our way into it.

Most of us have never paid a dime to "be in the business." Syndication, like Rollye James show, incidentally, is NOT "brokered radio." It's selling a service that's wanted and PROVEN. Someone PAYS for the right to air a program or "syndication." Rollye is very good at what she does and has a national reputation and a huge following, especially from her Philadelphia roots.

Dreams are only the start. While your AM 1mw radio station, if it gets on air, reaches about 2 blocks. DtotheJs "Cockroach" reaches around the world with nationally recognized and successful "syndicated" programming and then some.

Who would you like to most be? A dreamer or a player? Excuses don't work, nor does misguided fuzzy logic.
