Great song but always preferred the Walker Brothers."And make it easy on yourself. "
CKLW kept in and "Never Give You Up" in its gold library through at least the mid-70s.Only The Strong Survive was a favorite of mine then and it remains so today. Certainly a song that vanished from the airwaves as soon as it fell off the Top 40 charts. Perhaps it resonated with the "Soul" format.
Try Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel on the iHeart Radio app: only 60s and 70s, NO 80s, thank God!Only The Strong Survive was a favorite of mine then and it remains so today. Certainly a song that vanished from the airwaves as soon as it fell off the Top 40 charts. Perhaps it resonated with the "Soul" format.
That's my fav too.CKLW kept in and "Never Give You Up" in its gold library through at least the mid-70s.
Sean Ross reminded me that CKLW played Jerry's last chart hit, "I Want to Do It To You" in 1977.That's my fav too.
Butler had the original hit version of a song that later would be a hit for Tony Orlando and Dawn under a different title: "He Will Break Your Heart" for Butler, "He Don't Love You" for Orlando. I've always wondered why that happened, and whether any other songs have ever been hits under two titles despite being 100 percent identical.
I like both songs. Not sure which version of either I like better.Great song but always preferred the Walker Brothers.
Jerry Butler also did a version of "Moon River" which I often hear played on the syndicated show "On the Beach" with the late Charlie Brown.Jerry Butler's "(I'm Just Thinking About) Cooling Out", while a minor chart hit in 1978, is a longtime major staple in the Carolina Beach Music scene. Kinda what "Freebird" is to classic rock radio. It's still played often on CBM stations like 94.9 The Surf in North Myrtle Beach.
