Jerry Del Colliano Says All Cumulus Country Stations Will Be Nash

Jerry Del Colliano says in his column this morning that all Cumulus country stations will be called Nash FM by the end of the year. Keep in mind this is just Jerry talking, and no one has confirmed it's true.

I think Cumulus would be making a mistake if they rebranded Kicks 101-5 as Nash FM. Kicks has too much heritage in this market.

Can you say Peach 94.9?

That was a somewhat different situation. Clear Channel conducted focus groups. When they played current songs that both Peach and B98.5 were playing and asked the group where they would hear them, the participants always said B98.5. When they played older songs, the focus groups said they would hear them on Peach.

Clear Channel realized they had a perception problem and that the station needed a new identity.

I'm not saying Clear Channel did the right thing in changing the moniker, but the situation was a little different from just arbitrarily changing all stations in the company to one name.

I read on the Georgia board that a long time country station is Savannah was changed to Nash. According to the thread, WKAK has been K-Country since the mid-80s. Now it has been changed to Nash.

I know Savannah is not as big as Atlanta, but 30 years as K-Country was abruptly changed to Nash. It says to me that Cumulus is serious about changing their stations to Nash no matter how long they have had a moniker.

All TV stations that carry ABC programming, regardless of owner, are called "ABC (insert channel)." So what? It's branding. Big deal. The world hasn't ended.

Peach had become synonymous with Beautiful Music in ATL, as the last BM station to flip out of the format. B98.5 (also previously a BM station, as "Beautiful 98/Great 98...All Day, All Night, All Nice!") exploited this fact. That may have been why WSB-FM branded themselves as "99FM" and not "98FM" when they first flipped to AC.

Channel 2 in Atlanta never refers to themselves as "ABC 2" it uses the ABC logo but it is one of many ABC stations that does not use the network name in the station brand.

OK...how about Fox 5?

They do use Fox in the station brand just like CBS Atlanta, My Atl TV and CW 69 does but 11 Alive and Channel 2 does not.

You claimed that "ALL" ABC stations use "ABC (channel number)" and all network stations do not use the network name in the station brand name either.

I never said no station uses the network in its name so the comment about FOX 5 using it here had nothing to do with the original post.

That's OK....the OP says "ALL" Cumulus country stations will be NASH. There are several markets where Cumulus owns two country stations. I doubt that'll run the same branding on both.

I bet they'll keep KICKS and rename the other station to Nash.

I never said it was the end of the world. I just said I thought they should keep the Kicks moniker.

Heritage to these people doesn't matter. For over 30 years, Albany's country station was called K-Country. It's now NashFM. Maintaining heritage is expensive when there are shareholders to pacify. Kicks will be Nash regardless.

I don't believe they will mess with Kicks, the Nash is mostly in smaller markets,I found out the cumulus doesn't run CMT live with Cody Allen on all their stations.
