Jill-FM launched a new morning show on Friday, March 19?

What could 92.7 flip to? That could be the best format for Orange County - knowing that their signal never reaches L.A.. Only thing I could guess is that, they could just make competition with The Sound. Supposedly 100.3 does much better in the O.C..

I thought that Country does well in the OC :)

But is the program just the OC or will it be on the Ventura and Adelanto signals.

My wife will be disappointed. She likes Jill just the way it is.

Bill Gardner is a really good morning man and PD. Great track record.
I'm guessing he'll fine tune JILL to make it work. Personality AC is his
forte.

I've been listening this morning so far for about two hours. Captain Bill Gardner is doing a nice job, sounds younger than he is, and is helping make JILL-FM sound like more than an automated jukebox. One of the positioning statements I heard is "The Voice of Orange County" and "surrounding Los Angeles ...". I notice he is bending over backward to emphasize the Orange County aspect of the station. It's clear that this is where their focus will be as during every break, when Bill opens his mic, he mentions something about many of the cities in the county. I don't know if they are just expanding their little office in Lake Forest or if they are building new facilities elsewhere in OC, but it appears that Thousand Oaks and the high desert will be considered satellite operations in the near future. Right now the majority of the advertisers are still in the Ventura County/west San Fernando Valley areas along with some national sponsors. There are some advertisers in OC and I expect their numbers will increase. I noticed one of their newer AEs was formerly a sales manager at The Fish (I used to buy air time from him), so that should help garner sponsors in OC.

The music mix seems to be a hybrid of hot AC/AC with some adult rock thrown in.

While the execution is pretty decent, how in the world will this translate into success? I assume JILL-FM will market themselves heavily in Orange County (billboards/bus and bus stops/newpapers OC Register/other magazines or newspapers like OC Weekly, etc.)

I've said it before, this is a niche signal trying to be like other AC-type stations with bigger signals... WHO will listen or even discover them? Once discovered will a listener really care about this format? Listeners can get time, traffic, and weather elsewhere. As well as the music.

I started a thread on this subject on the Phoenix board; Tom Taylor's newsletter stated that the format is Classic Hits, and that a new studio is indeed being built somewhere in OC.

So classic hits will take over Jill FM? They got no chance against K-Earth 101! ???

In Phoenix he had a great record delivering 55+ and, even more, 65+.

Isn't that a little old for a classic hits station, if that is what Jill is to become?

I like how Jill sounds but is it me or do they play just about the same song or just about the same song once an hour or every other hour? Bill is sounding great in the morning on 92.7 and do anyone know what the surprise is suppose to be on 92.7 on Thursday April 1st?

Bill is not only a great morning man, he's a class act. He'll do great.

Bill is fine and I am sure he swell to kids, animals and old people...doesn't matter. The station format is still tragically misguided.
