jim patrick out the door of venus and replaced by ace

I heard Ace on V-102.5 this week and I thought is it true that Jim Patrick is out the door. I mean he was the only one who didn't talk a whole lot during his show and he always had something interesting to say. Then I look on the website and sure enough he's gone.

Now we have ACe on he is okay, doesn't play as much music as Jim did though. You get something good and then you let it go. So you got Trish out of the mix, now get Lulu out she doesn't know when to shut up.

Christmas cards we don't care, Christmas greetings we don't care, you talk to much play some music and shut up. I hate having to turn my radio when Lulu comes on to here her Buhu.

A few observations:

(1) Jim Patrick has been with Cromwell a long time. If he's gone from the company, it's just another example of how they discard people for the fun of it.

(2) If Jim is gone, it could be a blessing for him. Jim does good work. He's too good for Cromwell.

(3) I've an idea consultants or management are telling the air talent how much to talk or not to talk. I doubt the talent is making those decisions.

(4) Not that many people listen to either Cromwell station, so it really won't make a difference in the world of Nashville radio.

So...Bogus Bud blew out another veteran, eh? Now really, are you surprised?

There may be no other corporate operation that has as much potential as Bud's places. Too bad he's so out to lunch.

Once upon a time, someone who was lucky enough to get out of Bud's Nashville place alive was quoted as saying: "This is a place where radio people go to either survive or die in their radio careers".

I can think of no other more accurate description.

I agree, Bat.

I worked there for a brief time and have never forgotten the shabby way I was treated.

Pardon me for being crude, but whenever I drive by the Cromwell building, I remember those days and frankly, want to puke.

I am really suprised about these comments. Now, I have never worked for Cromwell, but I know people who do who really enjoy it, and rumor has it that Jim got 6 months severance. I have never heard of that in a non-union market. Frankly, it SUCKS being fired at Christmas (trust me, I KNOW) but with 6 months severance in my pocket, it sure would have sucked a lot less.

Is there a new PD? Warfield maybe?

IF the six months' severance rumor is true, it would be highly unusual, especially for Cromwell. I know at least a couple of former Cromwell employees who had to go to the state Department of Labor to get their final paychecks and in one case, it was less than $200.

people might want to be advised to think of this cromwell company as one of those places that is better suited as transistional employment or pay check untill something better comes along.  But then,  that may include most broadcasters in todays world.

Yes, Nashville market does seem to have its share of radio hang on's circling and looking for landing.

I'm pretty sure I heard Jim on 97.1 last night. He is good at what he does and I hope he lands somewhere permanently if he hasn't already done so.

Cromwell has tossed some talented people over the years, while allowing a real creep or two time to "build an audience" and run of the place. Shameful.

Jim, if you're reading this, you will be better off. Good luck to you!

Hi all...and Evangelist (is that Paul?) Thanks so much for the kind words, I appreciate it more than you know.

Funny about driving by that building on Murfreesboro Rd, on the RARE occasions that can get to Nashville. I too get a bit sick to my stomach. But I do wish them the best. ::)

I am in New Orleans learning lots about Carnival season (Mardi Gras). On the air here and very happy. didn't move here to do radio, but ended up doing it after all.

The town holds a special place in my family's life, and mine, so I made the decision to move here early last year.

Hope all is well in Nashville and I do greatly appreciate the kind words. As far as our friends on Murfreesboro Road, well..uh...I will leave it at that.

Best,

Jim

Yes, Jim, it is I.

Glad to hear you're in New Orleans and having fun. Interesting place. Been there a couple of times--lots of good restaurants.

All the best. You deserve it.

I sense possiblity of a RI Nashville board road trip --- Cajun style... Maybe they have an Arbor Mist factory in NO.

It's good to know you're loving life down there. I am with you on the gut feeling. Once, I was trying to
buy a radio station (smaller market, mind you) and the "person" was so sleazy (sp?) that I had to leave the
room because this was turning my stomach. Said I needed to go to the rest room, walked (make that ran) from
the junky joke of a station, went and got my family and drove back to Nashville. Turned out to be the rightest
move I ever made.

You are better off there Jim. Good move. Just that Nashville misses you.

Thanks guys!! Yeah, it's an interesting place to say the least. For the past week there's about 4 parades per day and that will continue leading up to Fat Tuesday. These folks do love a parade. Makes getting to work fun.

I think I'm gonna gain a hundred pounds living here too...there's no health food in this town, but lots of great food.

I think a RI Nashville Board New Orleans trip would be great.

Thanks again for the kind comments and wishes. I'll keep ya posted and check in from time to time.

Jim

Jim, if you love food and music, a real treat you have coming up a few months from now is the Jazz Fest. Been there and worked it, wish I could go every year. Makes up for the heat and humidity of the summers there....

Yeah...I hope to go this year. They just announced the lineup last week and it's a GREAT lineup! You're right about the heat and humidity. I thought I was gonna die in September.

It's also hard getting used to the winters. One day it's in the 30's and the next its 70 (tomorrow).
