Jim Polito show on WXKS Talk 1200

Advertisers and station owners aren’t interested in a few listeners. Ratings reflect what people want. A station with a 0.0 or 0.1 doesn’t deserve any advertiser or management attention.
Oh, Talk 1200 definitely gets no management attention, what with dead air, double airings, outdated "live" talk shows on weekends. But don't take my word for it; tune in on a Saturday morning, for example.

Tired Of It All, care to add to this?

The station doesn’t deserve any attention. Doing so would be a waste of management’s time. Again. No audience. No attention. You want the few listeners to turn to WRKO.

I was responding to YOUR statement "Jeff’s show will continue to be promoted to get the few listeners on Talk 1200 to listen to Jeff." Let me repeat again, the 'few' listeners to Talk1200 listen to that station because they're not the least bit interested in listening to kuhner or the subpar Howie Carr, etc. I can vouch for that. Management, is useless. I have pointed out to them multiple times about the constant double airings that happen at the same time, every...single...Saturday...and still the nonsense continues. I guess those of us who listen to the station don't deserve decent radio because there's only a few of us, so who cares.

Yep, every...single...Saturday morning...there are double airings at 11am and 11:30am, I've sent emails, left voicemails etc and the nonsense still continues and what's annoying is the station doesn't even bother to acknowledge said emails or voicemails. Just once it would be nice to get a response saying "thanks for letting us know, we'll fix it". Nope, dead silence and well, you know, there's only a few of us so we don't deserve the attention of management, we just need to suck it up and listen to RKO. Screw us. SO, the question is, what is the point of having a station where management doesn't give a flying bleep and there's only a few listeners??? Shut the whole damn thing down.

Scanning the AM dial in Wallingford, Conn., last night, I found the World Series at 1520 and just two other spots: 1090 WBAL Baltimore and 950, where WIBX Utica, NY, was king of the hill during the time I was tuned in. It was on neither of Chicago's sports AMs, one of which was carrying Monday Night Football, the other sports talk.

That rather ordinary Cowboys-Vikings game was on about three times as many stations audible here as the possible Series-clinching Game 5. I wonder if any stations are carrying the World Series only when there is no conflict with the NFL's regular season with no landing spot for baseball on those nights. Does ESPN give stations an "out" in their contracts enabling them to choose which Series games they want to air?

My wondering is whether they have enough programming to cover both those time slots. I would assume that they do, but perhaps they don't.

I believe they air a show live from satellite show during those hours. When you say double airings are you talking about problems during the automated breaks or right during the show?

Least and johnster, There's a home improvement show that airs from 10am to noon on Saturdays. At 11am after the news, Talk1200 airs an ad and on top of that is another ad airing at the same time and then the program starts, the host is talking and there's still an ad airing on top of him talking, rinse, repeat at 11:30am...every...single...Saturday. It's been going on for months. I gave up sending emails and leaving voicemails.

As I mentioned, it is wise to give up. Management has no interest in spending any time on that station. None. Besides, you continue to listen anyway!

AND, on top of it all, Polito started his new show this morning and the absurd, incompetent Talk1200 is STILL promoting the tired, morning drive drama queen from RKO. If I was Polito, I'd be on the phone ASAP. Talk1200 promotes Polito and then turns around and promotes kuhner, SMH at this nonsense. But hey, the few of us who actually listen to Talk1200, we don't deserve good radio, we must listen to RKO or suffer the consequences. SMH. If I was Polito I'd be pissed.

I get what you're saying now. Definitely don't have much human people driving the board at that time. Hasn't 1200 been on autopilot for a long time? I referring back to the comedy and liberal talk days.

With the morning show, I don't think he's paying much attention to Talk 1200 as perhaps he is to his other affiliates. Even with that, it is a sister station. If iHeart is putting any attention into AM, it's going to be for WRKO and WBZ.

When callers ask how to clean this or how to fix that, of course he's going to recommend his advertisers products and he only recommends products that he himself has used and items that he himself has in/on his home, gutter brush, humidifiers, etc etc etc.

One would think that Clear Channel (as iHeart was known at the time), who spent a pretty penny to acquire the license for AM 1200, and then engineer a new, directional antenna site that can blow out 50,000 watts in a market like Boston, would want to capitalize on that and hopefully recoup that heavy expense. I can see these days with their owning WBZ and WRKO that Talk 1200 might not be of PRIME importance, but the station was run poorly even before iHeart acquired 'BZ and 'RKO. I realize there are not many buyers for a low-rated 50,000-watt AM station these days, but iHeart probably wouldn't sell it anyway. That's because Talk 1200 helps iHeart Media in setting its national advertising rates because they have "clearance" in Boston for their syndicated Premier fare, even if Talk 1200 (or another iHeart station carrying said fare) has next to zero listeners. Is this a great country or what?

Look, we've used the pandemic as an excuse for inadequate staffing long enough, and since we're talking a 50,000-watt station using the public's airwaves, iHeart should give the station BETTER attention than it's been getting for some time now.

At least some local poli talk on in AMD now.
And Kuhner does make them money even if
only RKO runs him, not getting that show
syndicated.

6 am-- longer than expected local newscast (not FoxNewsRadio), ad, then Don Huff of WBZ with a minute update and now Polito on 1200. Talk of Boston mayoral election and other local races.
6:20 traffic report abruptly switches to ads

Some years ago in Pittsburgh iHeart decided to take Rush, Sean etc off their FM talker at 104.7 and switched it to country.Small AM station owned by Frank Iorio WJAS 1320 picked up the talk and I believe got to use iHeart's building for studios.Regional morning show then the national hosts. iHeart got to get their shows cleared, with lucrative country format on a
powerful FM.Different owner for WJAS now
but talk on 1320 continues.
(Wiki:"WJAS (1320 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, calling itself "The Talk of Pittsburgh." It is owned by St. Barnabas Broadcasting, a division of the Saint Barnabas Health System. It broadcasts a talk radio format, partially programmed by iHeartMedia under a master services agreement (with St. Barnabas retaining authority over personnel decisions),[1] with studios and offices on Fleet Street in Green Tree.")

Last time I looked, ESPN Radio offered their 24/7 affiliates right of first refusal on all their play-by-play rights. If their 24/7 affiliate did refuse, ESPN reserved the right to shop the game(s) around.

Realistically, it never happened because the work of getting an "alternate" affiliate was more costly than the benefits of ensuring all the games of the World Series aired in any given market.

Polito has 4 affiliates albeit regional…how many does Kuhner have? 🤣
Irrelevant. Four stations with very little audience. How many listeners does each have? Talk 1200 rating is 0.2! WRKO 4.1!
What are his ratings on the other three stations? Total audience for advertisers is what matters.

C'mon man, Kuhner is going national baybeeeee, any day now, honest he is, because, the phone lines are blazing and the ratings are through the roof, through the roof I tell ya! 😂

FYI, as one of the "few" listeners to Talk1200, one of the "few" who don't deserve good radio and should be forced to listen to RKO, I am happy to say that now that Polito is doing mornings on Talk1200, the Kuhner show promos have stopped. Haven't heard one since Monday afternoon.
