Jim Rome to start Monday 2/4 on 98.7 The Fan

what are they going to shuffle around as far as gary and the commish and/or kirk and dinger?

Yikes, not even six months old and already a new PD and re-arranging of furniture.
Meredith gone from Kirk and Dinger (off to Orlando and the Freak Show), replaced by Roxanne Wilder.
Justin Lewis gone as producer(?) from Todd Wright's show, and replaced by some dude named Maurice who doesn't even sounds like he enjoys sports
and now a schedule re-arrangement which cuts off the last hour of Kirk and Dinger, moves Gary & Commish to 9-12 to make room for Rome. Booger and BFRH 3-7 which cuts off first hour (I Presume) of Todd which I guess is now 7-10.
Plus ratings are still in the tank...
...and not helping that USF football had and hoops is having a TERRIBLE season.
...oh, and the contract extension of the Rays to the station formerly known as the Animal IMO was a killer.
Losing...faith...rapidly...

You mean re-arranging the deck chairs?? You should not be surprised based on the ratings.
Rome's show is a shadow of what it once was. Not surprising considering most of his "takes" were not his own, but that of his producer Travis Rogers (allegedly)

How do you know all this stuff? Where did you get it? Please share. Did you see a press release? I was not aware of the of new PD. So, where is Mike Pepper?
Considering the schedule has been kirk/dinger 6-10, gary/commish 10-2, both shows would be losing an hour. I don't think they will mess with Todd Wright's slot IMO, I think Booger/Rich will just get 3-6. Until Rome was off 620, I thought 98.7's local coverage was a superb angle to throw against a West Coast leaning national show. I still think it is, but it is going to take time.
I also agree 620 re-signing the Rays is not a good sign, I had always assumed Cox would pay "whatever it takes" to get Rays coverage, to broaden their "Live & Local" gimmick. USF sports alone is not going to cut it. Whose contract is up next, the Bucs or the Lightning? And how long from now is that?
A different "take" if I may. This may not be a local decision. CBS owns the station, and is pouring a lot of money into Rome's pocket on multiple platforms. Someone in New York realized the 1010 signal east and west still won't cut it per listener for the amount of jack ol' Van Smack is getting. I'm leaning that someone in NYC called this shot.

Indeed. Rodgers was fired because (according to Rome) his takes had become weak. Pretty much an admission it was TR's content and JR's voice. Anyway, so much for live and local radio. I knew something stunk when somehow JR was on AM but not on FM.
And the new program director is a music guy isn't he? I honestly didn't think 98.7 was going to be any good, but I'm shocked it's been as atrocious as it's been.

The plan was for the FM to be live and local, the AM to carry the national network 24/7.
However Tampa is one of the few major markets where Rome actually had ratings, Cleveland and Buffalo being among the others. Even though they have an FM "Fan" in Cleveland, Rome is still on WKNR (850AM). Likewise in Buffalo, Rome stayed on 550 WGR even though Cumulus launched a CBS affiliate there.
Maybe Rome on 1010 was beating the Fan? Even if he wasn't, they need something to drive some cume.

Well that sucks, and I don't get it. Of all the "meh" there is on that station, they let go of their best guy? I understand it is probably a money thing, but at some point you are trying to actually be, I don't know, a good-sounding station right?
By my count, all of the following people in this market are not doing a regular weekday show, and all of them should be considering what else is on the air:
Bobby Fenton
Todd Wright
T Kraz
JP
In particular I enjoy Fenton on the weekends on 620.

CBS went though a lot of stations recently and let go whoever was making the most money.

Exactly, they let their best guy go... amazing. Figures, it's the 1010 AM mentality. Bet the hack Mike Pepper still has a job...

I agree with the entire list except the Kraz... I dont think T-Kraz has what it takes to go solo. He did a passable job on 1040 or whatver station he was on briefly solo in the afternoons, but I dont think he is ready for a weekday daypart. Maybe an overnight or weekend guy.
I have never understood why DAE has not picked him up. I wish they could have gotten him in there for morning drive instead of that clown Sileo or these 2 morons in the morning now.

So you think he's weekend level talent, but DAE should have put him in AM drive?
Does this mean they are going to put on whatever CBS Sports Network offers to fill the overnight hours?
