According to Rodney's blog, Jimmy Baron was told he couldn't fill in for The Kimmer next week in light of some offhanded jokes JB made on his blog about Peterson's listeners. Apparently Peterson and some of the staff were pissed. Here's the post:

Former 99Xer Jimmy Baron was given a weeklong sub gig for the Kimmer next week, July 3-7. But he got himself in trouble because of some offhand comments he made on his blog about Kimmer’s listeners [EDIT...]

For a second there, it did look like Bloomquist was trying to maybe shake things up a bit. Apparently, though, he doesn't want to deal with anything "uncomfortable" that might actually get that garbage dump some attention.

Just when you thought GST couldn't get any worse. I was looking forward to hearing Jimmy.. And was hoping that GST would maybe hire ,IF he could cut it. I have never heard him do talk, but I would think he would do well in that spot soon to be vacated by Denny Shafer. Gotta give it to Jimmy. It's the first time I've heard of someone being fired before they were even hired.. Way to go. Welcome to Clear Channel. It's amazing anyone would want to work for that station. (Dino et.al)

What's amazing to me is that, while I'm sure Bloomquist may have taken some crap from some people in the hallway, you'd think he might sack up and still try something different to try breathing life into that place. Baron is at least a known commodity with a pretty good listener base in Atlanta. In other words, exactly what that station needs right now.

So they cancelled Baron in deference to Peterson? I didn't realize a 24th place ranking earned you so much clout.
 
You have to marvel at Bloomquist's short-sightedness. So Jimmy posts a couple of jokes about some of Peterson's listeners on a Myspace blog...big deal. A few staffers read it and get upset (even though the comments were harmless in the long run).
But by pulling him off (even though he was never really on) and making a big issue out of it, he's now exposed Baron's comments to EVEN MORE people.
Bloomy should have still left Jimmy on, as at least he's someone people in Atlanta know and might be capable of bringing in some new ears to the station. Instead, he's putting on someone who nobody's every heard of, and will get absolutely no buzz or talk whatsoever (although he does have Eric V.H. on Friday).
 
No need to search, they exist. Just ask one of his news hires.
 
Kimmer's clout is good enough to block his fill-in host but not good enough to keep Wayne or broker a deal between bloomie and gossett. Bottom line he does not have that much clout but apparently he he has less than one foot out the door.

Too bad I really wanted to hear Jimmy.

He gets "crap from some people in the hallway" about Jimmy Baron, but nothing about their one share in adults or multimillion dollar losses in revenue? Glad to see they've got their priorities straight at over at Graves Radio.
 
Unreal. When a thread started on this site about JB's gig at GST, most people couldn't care less. Now that he's been scrapped, everyone runs to his defense (or is it more of a chance to slam the Kimmer and Bloomquist). You people "make me want to puke!"
 
If any prospective host is critical of your station even before they get on the air, what would you expect them to do ON the air? I would have booted him too.
 
The comments on his blog were more along the lines of poking fun at some of Kimmer's listeners (of which we can all agree are very few) than actually being critical of the station. And based on his current blog, it seems Bloomquist gave him the okay to needle the wackos.
 
Has anyone ever noticed that anytime there is "news" about Jimmy Baron it's posted by, or commented on in great detail by Wooder. Rumor is, that Jimmy is Wooder and if that is true...that is so freaking Pathetic! I'm not sure if it's true or not. But if it is that makes Jimmy the biggest tool on the planet. I not sure I see Jimmy doing this, but he does love radio info, and he love people caring about his life so it's possible. If it's not actually him, I could see it being his wife posting what he wants her to.
 
I assure you I'm not Jimmy (or his wife, God forbid). I grew up listening to 99X like a lot of people (and eventually working there in sales/promotions a few years ago) and have found the "soap opera" of it's slow demise sadly amusing. Although I will admit my obsession with it is as pathetic as if I really did have a stake in the matter.
 
If you're not Jimmy it's not pathetic to comment on him. That is the purpose of this board. The truth is I am glad you are not Jimmy cause when guys "leak" stories about themselves so people will talk about them that is sad and wrong on so many levels.
