Well
Its been 2 weeks now
I did get a call about 5 hours a week part time in Bangor
(snip)
AND I'm getting Married November 10th...Job or No Job
JM

Joe -

congrats on the nuptuals - nothing but the best of wishes from all of us.

on the gig - take the 5 hours a week for now. you can show them your stuff and most likely expand that role in very short order. it's a whole new work world out here now, as you well know, and many companies want to see what folks have to offer when given the chance. give it a try - you have only the possibility of gain in this regard at this moment.

Chuck
Your Right AND if Both a Saturday and Sunday shift

I would love to do country but Soft Rock is great too
I'm even thinking about some sales...I've done it before

what about talking to the TV stations and cable about doing voice work for their commercials?

Don't forget Ad Agencies... Also, look around for companies who put in business phone systems - sometimes they offer 'custom' MOH (Music On Hold) messages - just find some royalty free background music and away ya go. It may not pay much per, but maybe in this economy quanity is the way to go.

Much Luck Your way.... :)

Joe...

If neither one of us gets radio, tv or voice-over work---we're going to serious have to think about opening up that twin drive-in next Summer! ::)

Personally..I hope one (or more) of the many radio stations (around Southern Maine or along NH border) I've applied to will come through for me? Like yourself, I do several character voices in addition to my own..am good at production and writing...and have several ideas that haven't been tried in the Boston or Northern New England Markets.

But the most important thing is that I'd prefer to work instead of collecting unemployment!

Joe,
I don't know you...but you have a trade that is very marketable. Try giving a call to the head of UMaine's Audio/Visual department. Nothing beats university benefits--and most departments now have employees dedicated to audio production and system design--two things you probably know far more about than you even realize. You'll also be surprised how many people in that field have had long and successful broadcast careers--and ended up "crossing over" because the hours and money are more reliable.

radiothis!

Joe,

Radiothis! has a good idea! And with your background, New England School of Broadcasting at Husson would be a great place to look into also. We've never met, but you've helped me wake up many mornings on WNSX. I remember one morning you REALLY talked about having a 16mm projector and you had just watched a "Mary Tyler Moore" episode. Ah yes, there's nothing like film as opposed to video tape. And what's this I read from Argy about a twin drive in? We NEED one around here. Too bad the season is short.

I wish you the best and your faith WILL get you through this all.

Hi Maine-i-ac!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but you brought up something that I'd like to share with the group.

Like yourself, Joe and I have a passion for movies on film! And if next Summer is as mild as this past one, perhaps we can start the season early and get an extra month or two? ???

Sadly..a portion of my film and movie poster collection I've had to offer up for sale in order to cover bills and find a new place to live? But I still plan to hold on to my original 16MM print of CASABLANCA along with a few other titles? The films are currently in storage....BUT...I have easy access to my movie poster collection. There are at least 300 titles I'm willing to part with which go back to the late 50s to the present! Some are mounted, some are flat and folded and the rest are rolled in tubes. Nearly all of them are VG to near mint.

So if there's a title or two someone reading this might be seeking...please email me at [email protected] Until the next broadcast (or piano/entertainment job) comes through, the posters are my only source of income.

Meanwhile...to Joe...fire up your 2 EIKI PROJECTORS...and I'll make sure there are enjoy projection & exciter bulbs for my 2 SINGER GRAFLEX's. After that...we'll try and find a location for our TWIN DRIVE IN! :p

So we can believe they are genuine NSS one sheets and not those contemporary knock-offs you get in Blockbuster? Some of those are worth a mint - as it were. If Rush can get a bid http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Harry-Reid-Rush-Limbaugh-Smear-Letter_W0QQitemZ260170172469QQihZ016QQcategoryZ4105QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem like this you should be able to get a good buck for a genuine one sheet.

If you have a web site, why not post the titles, or at least the better ones and let people inquire if you have something they may be looking for? (Post the web site here so we can take a look...)

Good Luck! :)

The Weekends sure are long!! When your not working
Looking forward to the radio Interview in Bangor Monday
no un-employment yet..its a month this coming week
I have to attend some looking for a job workshop
in Ellsworth on Thursday...Maybe I'll get some Ideas?
I've been thru all this before...but it sure seems hard
this time..
JM

That's interesting about the BANGOR DRIVE-IN Screens still existing! I know that once the PORTLAND TWIN DRIVE-IN went out of business...the screens suddenly disappeared.

The posters I'm selling are (for the most part) original 27X41 one sheets. I got them from theatres and through collectors. There are currently ads on www.craigslist.com (New York and California)...just do a search on movie posters and 16MM films. I've got the poster list in front of me so if you have a title in mind, I can tell you if I have it?

The films are a little tougher to get to (they're tucked away in a storage vault), but if there's a title you're looking for...I can tell you if I've got it?

The best news is...if you live in New England or upstate New York...and own a truck...you can pack up the posters you want and save on shipping. ;) UPS can be brutal these days!

I hope Joe (and I) get a couple of opportunities for broadcast work this week ???

Hey Gary
I just picked up a 16MM Print
of OZZIE and HARRIET from 1962 "THE DANCING LESSONS"
with the Original commercials for $22 Dollars off E-bay
Wont be buying stuff like that for a While
hard enough to afford Dog Food for Grover
The stuff is starting to look pretty good!
I'm not at that point yet....But give me a few more weeks
it kinda looks like "Meat Loaf"
Joe

Joe...

When you can find a complete print of ANY show that has the commercials and logos...this increases the value.

I've got a WYATT EARP episode similar to your OZZIE & HARRIET. All the commercials including the bumper for next week's sponsor...plus the 1956 ABC Globe Logo are intact! I know that one of the CHEYENNE's still has the commercials and the preview for the following week's show.

Once I can find a "new home"---we definitely need to have a weekend screening north or south of Portland, ME. :)
