Don't know if everyone reads R&R...or if you've received your 7/21 issue...but this is one of the cover stories. Check it out. I've heard O'Brien's a pretty good guy...and this piece says a lot. Look it over, and discuss...

A Fresh Perspective
Talk veteran recounts his year-long sabbatical
Al Peterson, Radio and Records N/T/S editor
Just a little more than a year ago News/Talk radio veteran Joe O'Brien took stock of his life and decided he wasn't happy with what he saw. While he had a great job, a loving family, and a comfortable lifestyle, after 27 years in Radio O'Brien was becoming increasingly aware of a sense of burnout that was taking a visible toll on his mind, body and family.
Although many industry professionals will identify with O'Brien's sense of burnout, I suspect few would admit it publicly. But in these days of multi-station management responsibilities, escalating FCC fines, shareholder pressures and more, it's probably a pretty safe bet that many of us have asked at one time or another, "What am I doing and where am I going with my life?"
