Joe Pequeno exits Ch3/5 after Anti-Muslim tweet investigation

Yes, social media must be used carefully, particularly in situations where part of your job is to represent your company in the community. Now, KTVK/KPHO is down to one sportscaster. Maybe they can get Tyler Baldwin back...I always like him.

Never cared much for Baldwin. Pequeno either.

What's Gil Tyree doing these days? Is Tom Schoendist still with us? Between the two stations, Channel 3 has always had far better sports anchors than 5 did, and that goes back to the days when 3 was ABC and 5 was independent.

Most employers have rules about this kind of thing. If you're on-air, you represent your employer.

You don't have to be in broadcasting to be subject to those rules. I got yelled at by my VP 5 years ago for posting a message on AZCentral, via Facebook, that was critical of one of our local politicians. The name of the company I worked for was displayed along with my name. Our CEO was running software that collected every mention of the company name, anywhere on the Internet. The use of such software is not uncommon. Even though what I posted had nothing to do with the company, he raised holy hell with my VP, who then tried to chew me out while not having the first clue why. Despite having 16 years with the company at the time, I made the decision to leave as soon as I could. It took a year, but that incident was one of the reasons I decided to retire.

To this day, I will not show the name of the company in my Facebook profile. I want nothing further to do with them. I put its former name (before being bought out in 2006) as my last employer instead.

Wow. I thought Joe, after leaving 12News, would be a rising star. I thought his weekend reports were unique.

Keith, thanks for sharing. We all should take a pause and realize just Liking something can get you into trouble.

Working for the State, rule #1 is, "Don't do anything that could wind up on the evening news." But then I was used to it; my father was a pastor when I was growing up. There's a fishbowl, and that was before the internets!
