John and Tammy to Mornings at KSON/KSOQ in July 2011

From Tom Taylor's 6/9/2011 newsletter here on www.radio-info.com:

John Flint and Tammy Lee probably love Madison and their situation doing mornings at Clear Channel's country WMAD (96.3). But if you got a chance to leave Wisconsin winters behind and do wakeups in the magical land of San Diego – you'd have to think hard about it, wouldn't you? John and Tammy take over mornings at Lincoln Financial Media's country KSON (97.3) and North County simulcast KSOQ (92.1), starting in early July. Brooks O'Brian, KSON's APD and music director, is currently holding down mornings.

Its going to be difficult to even match DSC in the mornings..Welcome to San Diego.Enjoy the uphill battle.

One bit of advise to the new folks coming in....don't sell your houses in Madison

It is amazing that in this day and age someone would quit a successful show in another market and move their families to San Diego: there must be some serious financial incentives at work here.

And if it doesn't work out, well there's always the internet...

They get to move to a bigger market with a far more desireable climate and they get to work for a much better company. They probably have at least a five year contract if not ten, and sometimes you have to take a chance at moving up that next rung on the ladder.

They do 5 and 10 year contracts? Wow...

Im sure the show will be fine, has anyone heard what they do yet in Wisconsin?? Are they any good? And someone please please teach them how to say things like El Cajon, La Jolla, etc..

When Mason voice tracked from Ohio for KJOY, and kept calling El cahon, El cajun. Someone at LF teach these people first dont let them go on the air and look stupid!

All I know is Brian and Coe, if I am not mistaken, have gone top five in 25-54 where all the money is with no hoopla, fanfair, rude, obnoxious, "I make more money than God" behavior like Rickards, no name-calling or dissing and if I think they are higher than J&J. They have been on, what, 8 or 9 months. Good for them. I am rooting for the hard working, ego-less radio shows who just do good radio everyday. I like AJ and Frankie, and I think that is pretty cool that these shows are doing it gracefully and respectfully of their peers. They are what class is all about. So KSON has a new show coming, we know which shows will make their mean cracks...and the ones who won't. Here's to GOOD GUYS (and gals) and welcome to the newcomers.

Not quite in San Diego, but a couple of worthwhile mentions from a fellow poster in the Sacramento area...

Tassajara = Tass-A-Ja-Ra

Rancho Cucamonga = Rancho Cuck-A-Mun-Ga

I moved here almost 8 years ago from New England and got a crash course in local pronunciations; and yes I learned quickly not to botch up the latter of the two calling in the wedding party while 500 heads all turn in unison as you quickly work to recover from digging yourself to China feeling like a complete ass. Note: All did laugh in the end after realizing my handicap). :)

So indeed a local English course should be instituted, no question about it!

If you are telling me Brian Shock is now a "good guy" because of his nice and clean morning show, then fine. But he used to yell and scream at the people who worked for him at 91X in jock meetings. He could be an abusive tyrant. You should never verbally abuse an underling in front of others. No one ever knew him to be a "good guy" back then. But everyone is eligible for redemption I suppose. Coe, on the other hand, may be the nicest person on the planet. We are all glad that she found another job in radio once she wanted to get back in.

So by deductive reasoning you should verbally abuse an underling in the privacy of your palatial office.

I'd love for you to detail your broadcast experience. You've never posted where you've worked, but you post like you know everything. Again, I'll put my 35+ years up against your board op experience everytime, unless you care to disclose otherwise.

There is never an excuse for an employer to yell at an employee. Mo matter how stupid or lazy. If they are that bad you simply fire them. Especially at CC, you sign the "At Will Employment" document. At any time you can quit and at any time they can fire you.

No excuse for loosing your temper.

But think about it opposites attract and work so you have the nicest sweetest human being on earth (Coe Lewis) with Bryan Shock??

In any case it will be great to hear a fresh? new? morning show maybe they will provide some good competition and force the rest of the shows to bump up their games.
