Some fun facts about the station and the purchase:
In 2005, Garabedian requested that 98.7 be allocated to Nantucket as a B1, up against requests for a class A in East Harwich and an A in South Chatham. East Harwich got the allocation.
There were three bidders on the frequency at last year's auction: John Fuller of CT fame, Jeff Shapiro (who won and built WAZK Nantucket) and David and Deborah Wang DBA Liveair Communications. I don't know what their connection to the business is. The bidding started at $45,000 and they won it for $55,000.
Garabedian paid $10,000 for the option to buy the station back in May while he investigated possible transmitter sites. He must've found one. The current CP is for a 3-bay Shiveley off the top of one of the water tanks in Chatham, 6kw directional, protecting WPLM-FM to the west.
The calls "WKFY" have been requested.
