John London goes solo-Dennis Cruz no longer on the show

I haven't been able to catch London on the radio too much (mainly listening to podcasts), but today I got off work early and managed to catch the 5 o clock hour. I was listening and wondering why I didn't hear Dennis Cruz, so I called the station and asked the guy that picked up the phone. All he could tell me was that John and Dennis are no longer a professional radio team. He couldn't elaborate further simply because that was all he knew.

Does anyone have any idea why they split? They even had a coming home party with KTRB on July 23rd in San Francisco which makes the timing of all of this even more confusing.

How did that homecoming party go on July 23? I was unable to make it because my transporter beam has been in the shop and I have not been able to travel into the future.

Dennis Cruz no longer on John London's Dying Ember? What a terrible blow that is to an already unlistenable mess of a radio program...

The best move Dennis has made in years.

Yep, and on an unlistenable, going nowhere mess of a station. KTRB, so much potential, and this is the best they can do? The station sounds bad. Just like KLAA here in LA... two 50kW giants with bad news, no local spots, and a bad sounds. Aye!

We could go back to writing our essays on "What Would I Do If I Programmed KTRB?"

I've already submitted my entry directly...

But does anybody know why he no longer is with the show?

John's show isn't what it use to be. All John does now is ramble about nothing. Dennis is better off without John, however without a strong partner I don't think Dennis or John will make it.

bossdj i take it you're not particularly fond of john london. do you two have a history or something? july 23 was an error, i meant june 23, but cute time travel joke. back to the subject, does anyone knows why dennis left the show?

Not at all. He was a great Top 40 personality.

Now, he's just another tired old white guy ranting and raving about things. He's not done anything to distinguish himself or make his show different or better than anything else out there, although he's tried.

I don't have a problem with him, personally. He was outstanding at KMEL. I thought he began fading on KNBR, was awful on the awful Free FM, and his show now offers nothing to set it apart from anyone else in the category.

If I want to hear another tired old white guy b*tching and moaning, I could listen to myself blathering like a grouchy old f*rt all day.

No, wait. I'd rather listen to London than do that...

Well, Boss - I would rather hear YOU b*tching and moaning - I think you're wittier than London. Maybe you should audition for a timeslot on KTRB. No - I take that back - you probably get higher "ratings" here at radio-info.com.

Thanks, Uncle Llew. My mom thinks I'm pretty swell, too...

(My wife simply smiles indulgently and pretends to listen, then shakes her head and goes back to whatever she's doing.)

I've got a 2.8 share here on Radio-Info.com, which puts me barely into the Top Ten. Admittedly, it's all readers 12+ -- not the demo that the advertisers look at -- and my TSL is only about 14 seconds.

Hmm. Maybe KTRB would be interested in me...

Re: John London goes solo

In quasi-related John London news...

Radio & Records reports today that Ron Engelman is battling inoperable lung cancer. Engelman was John London's longtime companion on the air here at KMEL, as well as at Power 106 in Los Angeles and elsewhere across the radio map, in addition to being an outstanding broadcaster in his own right.

Positive thoughts may be sent to Ron by way of his family via [email protected] <[email protected]>.
