Jonathon Parker Hitesman, radio personality, musicologist, and a former Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard resident, died on Jan. 11 in Palm City, Florida. He was 66.
Jon was born in Montreal, Quebec, to Walter and Betty Hitesman. The family later settled in Bedford, N.Y. and summered in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard. Jon's father, Walter Wood Hitesman, was President of the Music Division of Readers Digest which allowed his son, Jon, not only to travel the world with him and meet the major movie composers of the day but also to build a library of musical knowledge few could challenge.
After graduating from Washington and Jefferson College in 1973, Jon moved to Boston and pursued a career as an on-air radio personality. Jon was a frequent guest on Jordan Rich's WBZ radio show where one movie composer per program was highlighted with words and music.
In 2011, Jon and his wife, radio executive, the former Sandra Younts, settled in the Palm Beach area of Florida where he developed and hosted a local web-based movie music appreciation program.
Jon is survived by his loving wife, Sandi, of Palm City, Fla., and his devoted son, JP, of Grosse Pointe, Mich. His gentle spirit and demeanor will be missed by all who knew him.
