Journal's "93.1" format switches from "Country" to "Classic Hits" at 9:00am

Journal's "93.1" format switches from "Country" to "Classic Hits" at 9:00am

Journal's Country station 93.1 is now in a "Classic Hits" format and also call letter changes! Great news for East Tennessee.

Only bad thing is it appears to be a satellite fed format. :( You'd think Journal could've at least done a local format (even if it was voice tracked).

Actually, after listening, they appear to be using one of those services (like 106.1 The River), that features a national service with dj's cutting local breaks each hour that are fed in. Pretty sure it's Dial Global that offers these types of formats. (previously Waitt Radio). Sounds like they are using the localized version of Dial Global's Classic Hits service.
I'm not really a fan of these services. To me, they sound almost as awkward as the old 24/7 satellite fed formats. I'd prefer a locally automated/produced station, even if it was nothing more than a jockless jukebox with just sweepers.
Journal must've spent all their cash on 100.3. They cheaped out on this one. Maybe they'll have a local morning or afternoon show, hopefully. (also better, "real" production/sweepers would be nice).

Journal has screwed up or dropped the ball on the last four or five format maneuvers.

It is a little disappointing that it's not live/local and I think that will decrease its potential for success. However, I'm very happy that classic hits is back in Knoxville! Satellite or not, I'm still enjoying this!

Agreed - would like to see at least morning and evening drive done locally (and maybe that will come later), but I'm not complaining! I detest WIMZ - this is a welcome format for this area especially since I live just out of range of the Crossville station on 105.7 and don't get The True Oldies Channel on AM 670/FM 98.3 very good either.

This isn't the final product. They had to put it on "as is" since they only had a 2 week waiver from the FCC.

What do you not like about WIMZ?

I tuned 93.1 in today to give them a try, music is good but hopefully they will get it tweaked in and add some "live" and maybe local DJ's to the lineup.

I can pick up 105.7 fairly good around town until I hit the east side. that is when the FM translator in Morristown really chops it up. As for TOC on 98.3 I get them like gangbusters out around Emory road in Powell, which is surprising since the antenna is on the AM stick in Sweetwater and is located in a hole. If their antenna height was at class A minimum height they would get into Knoxville much better. But I doubt Horne will spend the money for that.

The downside to WIMZ, same old small music rotation, I do like them on the holiday weekends when they do the long countdowns. That's when they play all the music in the library. Also when they crack open the mike and start the rock music bed I start punching the buttons because I don't like to listen to them rambling for about 3 to 5 minutes.

Wish that was true, and they would put more effort into it, but I don't know. Sure the waiver was for a 2 week simulcast, but Journal's known for months that they would be adding another station. They would've had plenty of time to get a studio set up, get production/imaging produced, and set up the music library. I'm hoping you're right, and they'll eventually at least automate it locally, but seems doubtful to me. I guess they figure the returns on the money made on the older demo format don't justify the expenses of a full fledged local operation. (they have 104.5 on a similar class A signal and it's produced locally). Anyway, as I said, even if it's nothing more than an automated/jockless jukebox (kinda like South Central does with 95.7), I'd at least like to see it done locally with good production elements.

Why won't the website let you "listen live" yet?
