(read the 'GAZETTE' on the front)

The event is THIS Saturday at 10am - all for J.P.'s STATUE!

I plan to be there, with a VERY HUGE plastic banner -

**(what does this have to do with Seattle radio?....go ask Cashman)

Very cool. Back when KIXI had a morning show, Jim & Jim were early-on supporters of the statue thing. They sponsored a vip screening of old JP Patches shows on the big screen and donated the money to the statue effort.

I'll be there for sure!

JP Patches TV Show's 49th Anniversary

Yes, happy '49th' birthday today to the 'Patches Show' -

It's NEXT YEAR on this date that JP's statue will be placed in the Fremont area..

Hard to believe:
JP will be 79 this April

Ironic that KING TV does a great story about a local character who was an icon on KIRO.... Where were they??

It's amazing to me how much the stations who hosted these people don't care about those contributions from years ago ... and by "hosted" I am implying a euphemism for "benefitted for decades with advertising dollars and loyal viewers". KIRO did a profile on Patches [Wedes]/Gertrude [Newman] once and I suggested they give a dub of the show to the guys featured on it. No such luck. Channel 11 did 50 year retrospective with a significant segment on Brakeman Bill...who did not get a copy of that program either.

Granted...not life-stopping crises; but it galls me to no end how little respect there is at any station any more for its heritage and history. Ironically the people producing these programs are probably the same ones who were clamoring to get ON those programs to celebrate their 8th birthday.

Re: JP Patches Statue Event

Heeere, Here!

I had the chance to contact ALL the local TV news channels to simply 'remind' them of this event,
-- only KING-5 covered it - let alone even 'mentioned' it...

I got an e-mail from KCPQ-13's news dept Saturday night, telling me THEY DID have a camera there
and that the story would be on their 10pm news that night...

..it wasn't.

I called KIRO-TV's news on Sunday....'no comment' they said....

..go figure...
