JT's Ship has Sunk at Fox Sports Radio!

FSR would be better off having Sean Farhnam do the 1-2 EST and lead into JT do the 2-6. Making more sense to lead into Czaban at 6 AM or even have Czabe do 5-9. I'm glad that I can hear Tony Bruno and that Ben Maller is back on the weekends.

Czaben has a 13-hour workday as it is... he co-hosts the "Sports Reporters" with Andy Pollen from 4p-7p on WTEM/Washington (which had been the originating station for the morning show; they dropped it after changing affiliations to ESPN Radio). I'd highly doubt that he'd want to extend himself even further to a 5a-9a show... even though the idea would make perfect sense.

I too am thrilled that Big Ben Maller is back on. In time, FSR could right yet another wrong by putting him in the 1a-5a slot. We can wait and hope.

From this lineup it looks like FSR's primary focus is the West Coast.

Well... they merged with KLAC... and KLAC's PD Don Martin took over from the late Andrew Ashwood with the merger. So it actually is KLAC in a superstation-style format.

Weren't they always west coast based? The HQ is in Sherman Oaks which is where many of their personalities broadcast from. Steve Czaban is an exception broadcasting out of DC, without a flagship station, because they just had to put Mike and Mike on a THIRD frequency in DC. I remember Jorge Sedano was out of Miami.

That 5th hour is indeed a repeat of the 1st hour. And you're right, the hours that John Tournour is on the air all seem to blur together into one giant ball of suck.(1) Now that Andrew Ashwood isn't around to protect him, JT has definitely reached lame duck status.

As for the latest incarnation of Tony B's show, I think it's a notch below both the old Extravaganza and his old SNR show because of the lack of a decent sidekick. Andrew Siciliano and Mark Willard were good foils for Tony, and Tim Cates does not fill that void in the current show.(2) I'm still a big Tony B fan, but I can't help but long for the good ol' days. And I do find great consolation in the fact that JT and his remedial English/grammatical skills have been jettisoned to the overnight wasteland, where his career will die a slow death.

1 here's what i recall of mr. tournour's show, because i listened to maybe total of less than 1 hour since he has been at fsr- screaming, yelling at callers who dared to have an opinion that did not match his, football (even during the middle of baseball season), more screaming, etc. did mr. tournour need to have his little army of clones to feel validated that he took calls calls calls more calls i take more calls than anyone in radio, whatever. i don't want to hear their opinion, especially when they are screaming to make it.

premiere should have had his name at the top of the list on january 20. he brings nothing to the table.

2 i pine for the return of rip andrew thursday. if premiere could resign andrew and krystal and put both of them on with tony, the tony bruno radio network could cement themselves as a solid 2 sports radio network, especially if they re-add ben maller.

Andrew landed at KSPN/LA, and Krystal is teamed up with Jorge Sedano at his morning show on WAXY/Miami. Anything can happen... and it would be a dream scenario.

The old "Kiley and Booms" also originated from Washington (WTEM never aired the national version; they cancelled their local show in early 1999) but after 9/11, Chuck Booms did his side of the show from CC's Cleveland studios while Kevin Kiley stayed at DC. Mark Patrick was from Indianapolis, and Dan Sileo was from Tampa.

Bruce Jacobs usually broadcast out of his home studio in Phoenix (IIRC, that's still the case). Chris Moore originates his show from Connecticut, and doesn't John Frickie do his show from Atlanta?

Was it Ashwood that screwed up the first go around with Tony Bruno ..? Can't wait till JT is gone and they replace him with Fricke or Chris Moore... Counting down the Days..

Yes, Ashwood was at the helm when that debacle went down. It was a money issue, and I don't know if Ashwood made the call on shortchanging Tony, or if the call came down from farther up the Clear Channel chain of command. But Ashwood should take most of the blame for believing that Van Earl Wright could fill Tony's shoes. He also is squarely to blame for JT the Brick being shoved down our throats for so long....they were close friends, and JT was untouchable thanks to Ashwood. I know Ashwood was well-respected by some of his colleagues, but he made a lot of missteps during his FSR days, if you ask me.

You people are missing the biggest tragedy of all. While some of you are celebrating the return of Tony Bruno, and others are debating the JT The Brick move to overnights, we are simply, if inadvertently, glossing over the real question here.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO SAM BATESH??

This man was well on his way to becoming the preeminent sports personality in the U.S. of By-God A.

It's long been said that you can tell the "radio men" from the "radio boys" by the number of ways they can make soup-themed references. And that maniacal whooping to start off the show? Absolutely groundbreaking.

Fox Sports Soup, in all seriousness, was a godsend to Steve Czaban fans like myself whose local affiliates opted for another morning show. Now, my level of Czaban has been reduced to "czero" and life has sucked just a little bit more ever since.

So it was Ashwood. I wondered why the hell all the wasted airtime with that crap. But Ashwood did support Ben Maller and he is very good. Interesting to me how Fricke makes Tom Looney seem better or more tolerable when he fills in...

JT is awful, but he is not as bad as VIC THE BRICK JACOBS and his dumb little sayings (I'M VIC THE BRICK JACOBS FEELING YOU!!!!!), so let's be thankful this hack never got his own show. FSR has some good spots (Czabe, Bruno, Ben Maller) and some bad (anything involving the brick name). I don't really see an extension for JT the Brick at the end of his contract

Remember, Vic Jacobs was inherited from KLAC with the merger. Chris Myers only moved into what was the "Loose Cannons" show with VTB and Steve Hartman, replacing Mychael Thompson (who was leaving for KSPN anyway w/ the Lakers contract).

I highly doubt that VTB will be at FSR beyond the preexisting KLAC contract.

Ben maller is back at FSR on the overnights Friday Night/Sat AM and Sat Night,/Sun AM.
WEather you like JT or not, It is good to have Live caller driven Sports radio back on

JT the Brick is definitely one of those guys that you either love or hate. Unlike most people on this thread, I like JT and listen to him when I can, though I can see how some can find him annoying. When JT sticks to sports, I enjoy listening to him because he does have a lot of energy and enthusiasm. But he also tends to get too political and patronizing at times; I think his 'military night' is really more a reflection of his politics (and I'm ex-military) and just seems disingenuous and patronizing.

If he'd just stick to sports and leave everything else out, he might not lose so much of his audience. Besides, I turn to sports radio to get away from politics; if I wanted to hear political talk, I'd listen to a political talk station. Hmmm, maybe if JT doesn't make it in sports radio, he and Looney can start a political talk show where he's the angry right-wing guy and Looney is the angry left-wing guy (and yes, they BOTH need to be angry to make it interesting)...

I think a show with Fricke and Looney would be great, I guess a good idea like that can't happen. JT sorry but, I can't take it anymore with the junk callers you have and the "lets be intense" every night attitude.

JT the Brick at first was very very annoying, but he has been making some intelligent points about the NFL.

I think he over did it the other night when he played "We are the champions" in the background after the Yankees win.

The other thing he does that is annoying is no matter what the caller says, he never agrees with them. I am sured he is programed that callers are idiots, but occasionally someone will call in with a decent point and he doesn't know what to say. If the caller is totally a moron he knows just what to say.

Did you hear him, literally, pop open a bottle of champagne in the first segment? To say he overdid it is an understatement. It was self-indulgent and masturbatory....but then again, every show of his is self-indulgent and masturbatory to some degree. His act is so tired, he just needs to go away and fade into oblivion, Fabulous Sports Babe-style.

Yeah JT is not the type just to give it all up, like the Babe did. He'll be around somehow. His show is entertaining-but if he really wanted to have a good show he would drop the Fanaticism and stick to intelligent sports.
But it's a nice mix with Bruno and Maller and Czabe in the morning always joking. JT never seems to joke around..... Looney doesn't seem very comfortable with fills in either

Its Sunday night JT is only a few hours away. ESPN isn't much better with Jason (my girlfriend back in college) Smith and SNR's David (the wackadoo) Stein. Its the BBC I guess.
