Just 4 Fun.....What if the Leno/Conan deal is a PR scam?

Use your imagination.......What if the Leno/Conan deal is a PR scam......?

-What if Jeff Zucker is really a programming genius?

-What if Conan is a better actor then we give him credit for?

-What if during the last week of the Olympics we hear that negotiations are back on between NBC and Conan?

-What if Conan makes a statement that for the sake of his staff and ESPECIALLY FOR HIS FANS he has decided to stay at NBC?

-What if Leno reappears after the Olympics at 11:35 with Conan at 12:05.....or in an unexpected move.....Leno appears at 10:35 following Local news at 10 and Conan appears at 11:30 ( getting the jump on Dave by 5 minutes) and following a local news wrap-up which started at 11:10.?

What if?.......from the TV Twilight Zone...................for your consideration....with apologies to Rod Serling.

Conan returning to NBC could be justified if the reruns at 11:35 get good ratings (BTW what are they planning to run the first two weeks in Feb at 11:35?). Add that to the stigma Jay brings with him to a taken Tonight Show which could on its own lower ratings for Jay. Also, I don't see many "Team Conan" celebs returning to TTS.

I like your idea of Jay at 11:35, but I see him on ABC which would end Nightline if ABC thought they could finally get Jay Leno. They may even give him a full hour pushing Jimmy Kimmel back a half hour.

Yea Jimmy, Jay on ABC, how funny is it NOW! :p :D ;)

I would like to see Fox have a Late Lineup at 11:30 and 12:30 just like NBC and CBS does. Conan at 11:30 of course. But who would be good for 12:30? I bet that everyone will have a different answer.

What if...Uncle Ben had lived?
(apologies to Marvel Comics' 'What If?' Series)

So far, ABC isn't interested in dropping Nightline, as it does well for them in the ratings. But suppose it did happen, corporate would have to make WLS-TV air Jay Leno (if he went to ABC) in the10:35pm time slot. WLS-TV already preempt Jimmy Kimmel by airing his show at 12:05am CST, instead of 11:05pm, just so they can re-air Oprah Winfrey that aired at 9am, in the 11:05pm timeslot. You could expect this from an affiliate, but it's sad when a corporate station preempts programming just so they can air something they believe would fit the timeslot. So for Chicago, Jimmy Kimmel ends up going up against Late Night with Jimmy Fallon & Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson instead of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien (soon to be with Jay Jeno again) & Late Show with David Letterman.

There is no reason why ABC would ever want Leno. Nightline and Jimmy Kimmel are doing just fine. Plus Jimmy has captured a younger audience that will stick with him. And he's a lot funnier than Jay. Leno is in the sunset years of his career...nothing to bet a network's future on.

How about Adam Carolla?

If this turns out to be fake.....it will have been the single-handedly greatest PR scam in all of broadcast history. And it will probably prove to be NBC, Leno, and O'Brien's undoings....

Just as the guy from Coca-Cola said, "We aren't that smart, and, we aren't that stupid."
These are just ordinary men and women who have huge resposibilities. It is possible for the execs at NBC to re-evaluate the decision, it has been done before.

Star Trek 3rd season was a result of such a turn around. They did not manipulate the audience into writing those letters.

A hoax, I would seriously doubt it. I'll say definitively NOT!

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

I heard his last show got a 7.9 rating. This leads me to believe that the show had a lot more viewers than NBC had thought. That is an awsome rating. I bet you lots of new viewers discovered Conan on his night too. people who would definitely become regular viewers if NBC had kept the show on at 11:35.
