Just heard on the news joe elliott let go from 84 whas

I was very surprised wave 3 said they tried to contact clear channel but no such luck. But there sources tell them it was for budget cuts and a syndicated show will take its place more then likely. The mcdonaldlization of radio continues!!! But this sounds to me like this would be a good opportunity for 970 wgtk to start a local nightly talk show.

I liked his show didn't listen all the time but some but i will miss his nightly visits with john belski.

I would say bring ziegler back but that ain't gonna happen i did like him better but such is life.

I just heard rumor has it that michael savage will be his replacement.I do like him not his politics but this is so not fair but what is these days.

i didn't like his politics either, but at least joe elliot isn't as offensive as michael (savage) weiner.

if the people in louisville found john ziegler offensive and disgusting, wait till they get a load of this guy.

i stopped listening to whas the majority of the time when they fired zig. tis a shame that i find wxxa/wkrd more entertaining since that day, and i'm really not that big of a sports fan.

It would be nice if Cumulus or Cox purchases AM 970 and present a stronger competition with Clear Channel's WHAS. In Atlanta, Cox's WSB-AM dominates Clear Channel's WGST-AM in the news/talk race. In Lexington, Cumulus' WVLK-AM is going head-to head with Clear Channel's WLAP-AM.

This is a sad day in Louisville radio. I loved Joe's show. Is it a fact WHAS will bring in Savage, or could it be McConnell?

God between the two though i wish it would stay local i hope it is savage. At least he is entertaining.Kinda like when adam corolla was on loveline on the fox before he left he would take this call and say like"ashley your 27 " and then go off on a tangent for like 10 mintues with r drew or so while this poor girl was on hold.Savage does the same thing going off on tangents.

Elliott is one more in a long line of employees who've been given the shaft by CC, or should I say Cheap Channel. He shared with the listeners their respective problems, and they appreciated that.

Savage is crude. Here's another example of syndication being piped in by CC, expecting the Louisville audience to accept what's heard in LA or New York. Wrong!

WHAS has continued the downward slide since their corporate connection to CC. Additionally, deregulation of the mid-90s has just about ruined the radio business including this former great station.

Budget cuts...? What a garbage company...all you can do is hope something horrible happens to them...boy, that $60,000-$80,000 Grand a year is really gonna help their bottom line...is this what its become?...how sick...way to support your so-called "christian ways"...hope God likes dirtbags...

What will WHAS do with Joe Elliot's Sunday morning slot from 8:30am-noon? Are we going to lose that time of localism as well? With the exception of the 2-hour local outdoors show at 6pm, Joe Elliot's Sunday morning show was the only live-local program on WHAS Sunday schedule. The WHAS hourly local news is even defunct entirely on Sundays. I wish the best for Joe Elliot. His show dismissal will be present a void in Louisville radio and perhaps beyond Louisville.

Joe Elliot should be hired at 970 WGTK to do mornings. Salem has a local talk show in the morning on 560 WIND out of Chicago, and WGTK performs well in the ratings share-wise compared with many of their other talk stations in other markets.

What I really don't understand is why 840 didn't go with Sean Hannity from 9PM-12AM. I know he would be taped too, but Hannity is buried by CC in Loiusville on WKJK. Even Medved on WGTK beats him. He would probably do better on 50kw like HAS

I heard on wave 3 news they did a story about the whole thing with joe he still has his sunday morning show from 8:30-noon wonder what he will talk about tomorrow hmmmmmm if the powers that be let him but i bet that will eventually go away also but for now joe still has sundays

It's worth noting the cancellation of the nightly "Joe Elliott Show" ends a 48 year old radio program. The weeknight talk show began in 1959 as "Juniper 5-2385" hosted by Milton Metz. The show's name later became "Metz Here". Metz retired in the early 90's, Doug McElvein succeeded him. McElvein's stay was short as he left for KMOX. Joe Elliott then became host.

I hope things work out with Joe Elliot. He's good at what he does and needs to be on the air. Let's hope 970 swings at this slow pitch and hires him assuming he isn't locked in a non-compete.

Joe Elliott wasn't the only one let go...

WZKF PD and WQMF afternoon guy Chris Randolf is gone, as is Jill Laurens who did mornings on WAMZ and vt'ed nights on WLUE!

2 awesome talents.

Doug i remember he did afternooons not nights. At least all i remember is he got the afternoon shift then whas said they were going to have rush then doug left. I guess chris should never have left wdjx but maybe he will go back!!!

What is clear channel thinking???

Doug did afternoons for a while until the summer of 1993. Then, after Milton Metz retired, CC moved Rush Limbaugh from Talk Radio 790 WWKY to 84 WHAS and Doug took over Milton Metz's slot from 9pm-midnight. After a short period, Doug accepted the afternoon drive-time position with KMOX in St. Louis.

Christopher Randolph, Jill Lauren and Joe Elliot are not only great talents, but diligent and hard workers. Christopher Randolph also did VT work from Lexington's WMXL and a station in Alabama. What a big mistake on CC part. I guess hard work and superb talent doesn't pay off at Clear Channel. What a shame!

3 things on my end:

1. Why did WHAS take Joe off the website, because he's still doing the Sunday morning show?
2. From the boards on here and the comments on the CJ website, all I've heard is negative about Savage. How in the world is his ratings so high?
3. I wonder if Prager on GTK can/will beat Savage on WHAS?
