Just heard on the news joe elliott let go from 84 whas

Back in the day 790 wwky was not owned by clear channel it was a competitor. Alan Colmes followed rush at 3.So cc did not move rush they stole him so to speak from 790 wwky which was a far superior talk station in the 90s compared to 1080 right now!!!

Back then, much like today, WHAS had a split midday shift. Doug was on 12-3 playing music until the early 90's then music was dropped for a a short lived talk show, Rush was still on 790. When Metz retired Doug replaced him about the same time Rush made the move to WHAS.

Rush was the only significant ratings on 790 back then and was beating WHAS middays. Rush's syndicator, EFM, realigned affiliates around this time so Rush was on the big signals. Former morning man Wayne Perky had said before Rush was even on WHAS they were able to sell out all of the local avails during for the first month. Jack Fox continued playing music from 9-11:45 am for another year. Fox was offered a talk show but decided to move on and Jane Norris took over.

The Sunday Morning Talk Show's beginnings just happened. Doug was working on a Sunday Morning and decided to do a talk show instead of playing music and the rest is history.....or until a Clear Channel Vice-President decides he deserves an end of year bonus and achieves it by budget cuts.......oops....did I type that......

Please RADIOVILLE, let me give my 2 cents here before you barage me like a headless donkey down the streets of Louisville, OKAY....GET IT!

Cox is moving the signal at 103.1 to a much larger, much stronger tower (50,000 watts). I highly doubt Oldies will remain on that frequency (I could be wrong) but that wouldnt fare well for the investors in Atlanta.

Move a live and local country from atleast 6AM til 7PM to the 103.1 freq and bring in Chris and Jill to have airshifts (possibly program).

Move WRKA Oldies to 103.9.

Cumulus (my two cents here) can have 6 radio stations. Make a deal so Cox or Mainline gets some of the leftover AM signals after the big Salem Garage Sale.

Take one of them to NEWS/TALK Louisville without all the syndicated crap and really invest to make the great one fall.

For years, CC has been dropping local evening/night talk talent and replacing them with
cheaper syndicated talk programs. I listened to the Joe Elliot show just last week here in Ohio.
I enjoy his show but the thought keep going through my mind as to why CC had not replaced
him with a cheaper syndicated talk show years ago when other CC stations had made this move several years ago. I prefer to listen to local talent.

It look like he was living on borrowed time.

Here is a WAVE news link on Mr. Elliot here: http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=7434267&nav=0RZF

I remember whenever bad weather hit Louisville during the night, people would call into Joe's show and give updates on what's going on wherever they were. Looks like you Louisville residents can't do that anymore. :(

Yeah I remember bad weather you could call and talk to someone at any radio station or get updated weather, etc. before automation and voicetracking.. but this is radio in 2008.. get over it! syndication and automation rule, radioville - you know that right??

It's time for you old radio wannabe's to quit living in the past!

Radio itself needs to quit living in the past. It's no longer 1992, it's 2007 going on 2008 and radio is a linear antiquated delivery device with long stopsets in a world of interactive toys.

WHAS used to be a full service radio station but has been reduced, for the most part, to a self-service kiosk. There still elements of unique content but we'll see what happens next December. A budget cut down the road might be shutting down the transmitter and selling the tower and ground system for scrap.

You can't live in the past, there are stock holders and an over abundance of Clear Channel Vice-Presidents who deserve an end of year bonus.

I'm a little surprised at the timing. Only a month from the primaries and a presidential election year.

I remember when WLS/Chicago was a great station. Not the case now. About the only clear-channel 24hr. local programming station that I can think of is WBZ/Boston and to a lesser extent WGN/Chicago.

I didn't expect WHAS to become a dinosaur. But they should have kept evenings local. Aside from B'ball, that's over.

* Savage: too ny,Jewish, nuts. But that said he's slightly better than the usual cookie-cutter RW host.

What comes first - people stop listening so local hosts can not be afforded OR local hosts get cut to save money and people stop listening? I'm pretty certain in this case the latter is/will be proven true.

Clear Channel would get better results with a more hands off approach - let the stations operate locally and make the right decision for their market - and send the profits to corporate. Their listeners are used to a fully live/local WHAS - they will tune out if they don't get it.

Too bad - WHAS was one of those rare gems in the radio biz.

There are few things better for a Louisville boy than tuning into WHAS on a night ride after work. Whether to Knoxville to see my kids or driving back to visit my Dad and friends in Louisville, those rides won't be the same without Joe and his guests.... or just Joe and his callers.... or just Joe.
Rather than stab the beast one more time or chide a generation of pioneers for their views, I choose to recognize the dignity exhibited by all in this mess. You're a class act, Joe Elliott. I am glad I met you.

Tom Prestigiacomo

Speaking of class... Tom, where can we get you on the dial, in the near future.. Was a "BIG" fan for years, as I worked a distance away in the Bootheel of MO, In Evansville and Nashville Radio.... Man, you're as good as they get! A fan, "Skip"

I heard that on his last Sunday show on 84 WHAS Joe was going to have the lines opened up talking about his departure from WHAS... Anyone happen to record some of the show so I could listen.

Unfortunately, I missed last sundays show.

I did not record but everyone was wishing him well and why did cc do this and he said micheal savage will do well. But i bet they have lost alot of listeners and i would love to see what his listenership michael savage compared to mr elliott.
