Just looked at the 12+ beauty pageant otherwise labeled "ratings..."

Wow. That's all I can say. The move of Rover from K-Rock to the Buzzard REALLY made an impact in the market.

WMMS is now ranked the highest it's ever been in the beauty pageant since the 1998 "Death of the Buzzard" stunt. At least I've never seen it in the top 10 since then... it leapt back up to eighth place.

K-Rock got slashed. And I'm being nice in saying that.

I'd like to see the demo listings, though it may play like a horror movie, I suppose.

Nathan,

Can you provide some of the ratings here? Say, top 5 in the Cleveland area?

Also, would WCPZ and WLKR show up in these ratings? I'm interested because of the changes made at those stations.

Finally, can you explain how these ratings work? How do they arrive at these numbers, and are they truly an accurate gauge of listenership?

In 04 Fall - WCPZ was #36 12+
In 05 Fall - WCPZ was #29 12+
In 06 Fall - WCPZ was #33 12+
In 07 Fall - WCPZ was #35 12+

But when you break out the county by county areas... Erie County

In 04 - WCPZ was #3 12+
In 05 - WCPZ was #2 12+
In 06 - WCPZ was #3 12+
In 07 - WCPZ was #3 12+

In 04 - WKFM was #1 12+
In 05 - WKFM was #1 12+
In 06 - WKFM was #1 12+
In 07 - WKFM was #2 12+

In 04 - WMJK was #9 12+
In 05 - WMJK was #4 12+
In 06 - WMJK was #7 12+
In 07 - WMJK was #7 12+

In 04 - WLEC was #8 12+
In 05 - WLEC was #8 12+
In 06 - WLEC was #9 12+
In 07 - WLEC was #9 12+

In most cases WAKS/WVKS or WNWV would slide into the top 3 positions in Erie County

Officially WCPZ and WLKR are not Cleveland stations. You can pick up WKFM/96.1 out of Huron into Cleveland's westside (Lakewood). I've gotten it on the Shoreway. Still not a "Cleveland station".

I'm very aware where WCPZ and WLKR are located. In fact, I've advertised on both stations in the past, and the sales representives would show me ratings, which would sometimes have Cleveland-based radio stations among the figures.

I'm just wondering, in case I want to do business with them again, how these stations are doing ratings-wise, and if these ratings are even remotely accurate.

You were shown those numbers illegaly then. Clear Channel Cleveland is the only ones with access to the numbers, and if Clear Channel Sandusky was showing you numbers, then CC-Cleveland could be in serious trouble!

In that case, who's to say WCPZ or WLKR doesn't subscribe? Sales Representatives from both stations have shown me the ratings, although admittedly, it's been a while.

It's funny how all of you know, and are afraid of, the big bad rules surrounding Arbitron, yet none of you are aware of (or for that matter, have even heard of) the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Eh, whatever, I guess.

Now how "civil" was that comment?

Just give us a call and ask!

At WLKR & WKFM, we subscribe to Arbitron ratings, but we do not rely on them. Arbitron's sample size in smaller markets are not very large - just 44 surveys in Erie Co in the spring '08. So we (or at least, I) use the ratings as a general guideline, and do not follow them strictly.

We would be glad to show you the ratings, and help explain them. But we would be more interested in meeting with you so we can work together to develop a customized ad campaign that helps you achieve your business goals and stays within your budget.

either way, we're just a phone call or email away

Can't forget about 93.1 WZAK...and
another largely listened to one in Erie County is 97.3, WJZE, Oak Harbor(Toledo) (not sure if they still call themselves "The Fox" or not).

Oh yeah, anyone heard how Erie County's 1450AM is doing since the ingenious BAS Bloodbath Boys kicked on their "Timeless Favorites" feed & turned "live & local" into "empty spot blocks & an empty building"?

Night Fly, you're about as silly as "ding dong" Bell, always talking about BAS in a negative fashion. Obviously you're to busy pushing buttons at night to notice. CC sent a perfectly good station in LEC 12+ from #2 in Erie County to #15. BAS had nothing to do with that. They did however change the format back to music which is what made LEC successful in the first place, music, news and local sports coverage. As for the so called blood bath, where the heck do you get this information? I for one would love to see all of these industry negative idiots get out of this business. This is my career of choice and I hate to hear all this crap, especially when it's JUST NOT TRUE. I hear McDonalds is hiring...go bitch someplace else.

If McDonalds were hiring it would pay more than BAS is and unless you're in sales you probably make less than Mickie D's pays. If there was anything positive to say about them I would've by now. Who cares if you don't care to hear the TRUTH about BAS coming in & firing everyone last March...it kinda got kept quiet; oh, wait "just not picking them up" was how it was put. They have more interns running the Programming dept. now than anyone & I think it's safe to say they're running illegally having the station unmanned most of the time (or manned by an intern) . Talk about a hick operation when the owners use the station van to go grocery shopping with and cut their own opens 7 closes for public affairs shows just to save 20 cents. ::) "What made LEC successful in the first place" was having local jocks manning the place & not a feed. Like I said before, why have a live morning show? All that's doing is confusing people since only 4 hours a day is really live?

Welcome to the state of radio for the last 10 years. You're lucky to have escaped the punishment for so long. :)

Apparently it is you NightFLY who does not care to hear the truth. For example not everybody was let go in March. I have friends over there who tell me that Randy Evans is still there along with Mark Fogg, Steve Shoffner, Mojo, Randy Hugg, Dave Hayes, Paul Mize and Dave Wiedenheft. These are people who were there prior to BAS and are still there today. Also the station has exactly one intern. And these are only the air people and does not include those in the office. As for the ones who were let go they were lucky to have lasted as long as they did in a market that size and according to the people at the station their phones have not exactly been ringing off the hook with requests to bring them back.

As far as unmanned operations, the FCC has clearly set rules regarding these matters and they include having unmanned hours under certain conditions. Certainly BAS is not the only station group in the country doing this.

As far as a live morning show and confusing people, no one seems to be confused but you. And they are not only live for 4 hours they are live for 5 hours as they have a news hour at noon.

You seem uptight my nightfly friend, maybe massage therapy might help. Oh and by the way have a nice day.
