My JVC HD radio arrived very quickly. It is an "OK" radio, but not "great." The home kit would be helpful. The included "Professional Installation" kit is helpful, bot not really convenient, unless you want to pull out your existing radio, and find the antenna lead. On older cars, that is easy to do. On my current ride (a 2007 Chevy Tahoe) I'm not really up for the adventure. I'd planned to use it indoors anyway. If you intend to do that, you will need a 12 volt power supply, but they are easy to find. I had one in a junk box that works fine.
With a simple rat-tail antenna, the sensitivity is less than stellar. It is not in the same league as the Sony. There are over 30 stations in my area that Radio Locator says come in well enough to be local. In the scan mode the radio landed on about a half a dozen FM stations and three AM stations. None of those broadcast in HD. Hopefully, connecting an outdoor antenna will improve things. The AM reception was not really listenable, unless you REALLY were interested in their programming. It was low-fidelity, and very noisy. The AM noise isn't the radios problem, but it would be nice if all that DSP power was used to clean up things a bit. The FM sounded fine.
Like all other HD radios, this one runs quite warm. My biggest disappointment is a lack of RDS decoding. It simply isn't there.
Still, it is well worth the $9.97 plus shipping and tax. You never know when you might need another FM tuner.
