K-Earth just played a NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK Christmas song!

What is the world coming to?

The set went like this: Righteous Brothers, Beatles, Doobies - China Grove, then NEW KIDS. Horrible.

If anyone knows this Jhani fellow, can you talk some sense into him?

My word...

and yes.com is down at the moment so I can't see this yet... I'll be sure to check tomorrow though!

The proccessing sounds good.

When they played that song, I thought I was listening to KIIS in 1989 :)

I'm a little hesitant to buy one of those things (for both car and home) as it could always be the next Betamax. Paying for the content is a bit of a turnoff too.

I like to hear the local weather and local slant of an LA station, and you lose that with a nationwide product. I guess I'm also a little old fashioned in that I just like over-the-air radio, though I do listen to quite a bit of internet radio now. Radio Free Phoenix, Radio Paradise, KPIG, and KFOG's 10@10 are my faves.

Anyhow, glad to see SOMEONE is playing Blue Christmas.... Very appropriate this year. :(

I guess then they should add in some Rick Astley, George Michael, and Milli Vanillli. ???

(No offense if you like that stuff, but c'mon, it's an oldies station!)

Whooopeee  and I thought I was the only one! Yeh, RP is my favorite, KPIG is great, WOXY.com is back on too.

As far as NKOTB XMAS on KRTH, why not? They're playing nothing real old anymore anyway. Except maybe Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song.

I listen to WOXY too, though the sound quality is iffy. I like Radio Free Phoenix best overall, though they're all light years ahead of any terrestrial radio station that I've heard in my lifetime.

As for why K-Earth should NOT play New Kids, here's a few reasons:

1) New Kids is not an artist, and their music is not from a genre, that K-Earth would normally play. Why play them at Xmas?

2) All these Adult Contemporary Christmas songs are bumping out the favorites from Elvis and the Beach Boys.
Elvis and the Beach Boys ARE in the regular playlist, so why aren't they in the Christmas playlist?

3) New Kids are a polarizing group. Many people despise them. Can't say that so much for the regular roster of the Beatles, Stones, and Aretha Franklin, who enjoy broad popularity both from the public and from critics.

Last year's slogan, "Only the BEST Christmas oldies" - that said it all. You didn't have to sit through sappy shlock. They only played what an oldies fan would like. Now it's four or five Carpenters songs a day, four or five Mannheim Steamroller songs a day.... You can no longer leave it on in the background. When Barry Manilow comes on I HAVE to get up can change the station.

Any Amy Grant on the station yet?

And they're still not playing Grandma Got Run Over By A Raindeer!

Come on KRTH, give us Elmo and Patsy!

No offense if you are a big fan of Grandma, but I just cannot stand it. I'm very glad K-Earth isn't playing that one. I think KOLA plays it, but of course KOLA has a much broader playlist, especially with Xmas stuff.

They have cut back on the easy listening crap, but not enough. I don't think Jhani Kaye really took a look at the Christmas tune from K-Earth's past. He doesn't seem to realize how Little Saint Nick, Chipmunks, Donde Esta S.C., Elvis, and Boney M were K-Earth faves every year, usually played a few times a day each. He's got 'em at about twice a week, with Mannheim Steamroller and Carpenters showing up four or five times a day. I think he just plowed ahead with his KOST faves, chasing that #1 Christmas rating from his past. It's a bit surprising, because his programming of the "regular" music has not been easy-listening or poorly done at all. Excellent choices there.

I hope the ratings aren't too high, otherwise it might be attributed to the KOST stuff, and then next year it'll be all KOST.
