K-Love coming to WRQQ 97.1 Belle Meade 7/16/2012

The FCC applications appeared at midnight Eastern time 7/10/2012.

EMF and CUMULUS LICENSING LLC have a straight swap of WLVM 97.5 Mobile for WRQQ 97.1 Belle Meade, Tennessee serving Nashville, TN.

EMF is paying 1.6 million for WDLT-FM 98.3 CHICKASAW, AL (Mobile, AL) to be paid monthly for 60 months.

LMA's start Monday July 16, 2012 on all 3 stations. EMF will be programming K-Love on WDLT and WRQQ.

I never saw this one coming... with The Fish and WAYFM already in this market.. Very bold move to see KLove enter.. As many have known.. EMF has been typically shy of entering markets with well established CCM formats already there.. but with the recent rim shot purchase in Houston and now Nashville.. You got to wonder what's going on in the mind of the folks at EMF.

[For all of us that had been guessing "why would EMF give up a 100kw signal in Mobile Alabama they just purchased for a smaller signal...if there was nothing in it for them..." well apparently there was something big for them... A full market signal in Nashville].

The biggest thing is -- Both Fish and WAY are LOCAL in Nashville -- While both networks .. they are local to their markets meaning easy access to artists etc.. It will be interesting to see what approach EMF will have in Nashville with KLove.

Damn straight! 8)

At any rate, I have never lived in a market where I could hear K-Love, so this will be new for me! :)

You're not missing much..I grew up in Milwaukee, another K-Love city, it actually started off as The Fish, under Salem, EMF bought the station a few years ago and switched it to K-Love. The only real difference between the two is one was live and local, the other is K-love

I guess it's unlikely, but I wonder if Cumulus will do anything to salvage WRQQ/classic hits/Bob and Tom. I guess they could always send classic hits to 106.7 if they saw anything in it...WRQQ was doing a little better than WNFN recently.

Browse over to http://www.klove.com/ and click listen live... minus a LEGAL ID at the TOH.. That's what you will hear! [Oh they may air a local recorded "public affairs show" buried early Sunday morning to meet FCC requirements of dealing with 'local issues']

I'm surprised by this as well. I'm wondering if since so much CCM comes out of Nashville if EMF is trying to get a presence, possibly even to do broadcasts from here. Coulld they possibly eventually move their studios in Indianapolis to Nashville?

Now if only EMF would buy 94.5, make a tiny boost of power (or move the COL) into Lebanon, and have it be an Air 1 affiliate...

If not, it's still a win for the market...nearest K-Love/Air 1 stations would have been in Knoxville, Memphis, and Louisville.

EMF came to Jackson, MS a few months ago and brought us K-Love an Air1, though we had an establish CCM station here. But given that Nashville is a huge Christian music market, I'm kinda surprised EMF wasn't already there.

You may be onto something there. Interesting thought. I guess we will see.

Hasen't EMF been trying to get a signal in Nashville for a LONG time now? I knew there had to be something in the deal with the 97-5 Mobile swap that EMF couldn't pass up in order to give up that huge signal down there.

I've two questions concerning this move. First, what happens with Bob and Tom? Isn't Cumulus under contract to carry them in the Nashville market until their contract expires? And I just can't see Bob and Tom being continued on a CCM format.

Secondly, since 97.1 WRQQ in the flagship station for Vanderbilt Commadores football, basketball and the coaches show, what happens there? Do they continue on 97.1? Or do they move to one of Cumulus other signals? And since my team, the Tennessee Volunteers, are already on 104.5 the Zone, another Cumulus station, does Vanderbilt end up on 102.5 the Game?

NW TN has both K-LOVE (90.7 in Dyersburg) and Air1 (88.9 in Union City). Air 1 also has a station on 98.7 in Hayti, MO, just across the river from Dyersburg, but it is temporarily off because of looking for a new tower. When I'm in Nashville though, I'll still be listening to WAY-FM.

If EMF had plans to bring K-LOVE to Nashville, I wish that they would have bought the WNAZ group of stations instead of Bott.

I read some of the legal documents filed with WRQQ's application on the FCC website. as of 12:01AM on 7/16, RQQ has to carrry all of the K-Love programming content 24x7 without any interruptions (except for EAS). They are allowed 2 hours a week for local content, Sunday mornings btwn 6a-8a to meet the FCC requirements there. So, both Vandy and B&T will either have to move elsewhere, or be off the air.

Hope someone from EMF reads this! ;D

Hey, EMF, when you take over 97.1, please please please give them new call letters! "WRQQ" is damaged goods around here, and you need a clean break from that! 8)

EMF usually changes the call letters to something with K, L, or V in it. When they were on 94.9 in Ripley the calls were WKVZ, and now that they have been replaced by 90.7 in Dyersburg the calls are WZKV. 94.9 in Memphis is WKVF.

I love WayFM. The Fish is decent. Not much of a fan of what I've heard on KLove; too sappy. Way and the Fish are crazy for not purchasing 97.1 earlier. I said that some time ago. There's more market out there in Nashville for this format; just not strong enough signals.
