K-Love coming to WRQQ 97.1 Belle Meade 7/16/2012

It wasn't matching either K-Love or Air 1 (the Knoxville affiliates) I checked them both. The only two explanations I can think of is that either 97.1 is running a unique format or maybe K-Love delays programming for an hour in the central time zone?

Calls are now WLVU. I guess that says it all. Unless call letters are still unimportant, so you just randomly picked letters out of a hat and it was a fluke...

Goodbye WRQQ. We hated you while you were here. We miss you now more than we ever liked you...or something to that effect.

Topic for another thread: Some companies park cool call letters like these on another station. Did Cumulus retain the rights to these call letters for another station in their universe? Inquiring minds want to know.

One thing we now can see is that Cumulus has found a rich buyer for a lot of their excess properties: EMF.

K-Love is running a market specific feed on 97.1. The KLOVE being heard in Nashville currently is different than the other KLOVE stations across the country. Not sure how long this will continue.

No. EMF simply swapped the call letters with a station they already owned in Halifax, Pennsylvania, so WRQQ now resides there.

I thought those call letters work better for a rock station, but there aren't many of those left.

It's a wise move for them. I've never been a fan of the KLove music format when traveling, but I will admit, I've listened to them pretty much non-stop since Sunday morning. No commercials. Limited talk and self-promotion. Nice mix of tempo/style playlist. I love Wally on Way, but not hearing all the station self-promotion and static is very nice. I'm anxious to see what becomes of 97.1 if they keep playing as much music as they are!

So how does it sound? Is it closer to K-LOVE or Air1? Also, is there any live person on the air, or does it just sound automated?

I think it's closer to KLove, but with less sap. It's fairly repetitive for the newer, higher rated songs (aka anything Chris Tomlin or Casting Crowns or Toby Mac). It's VERY similar to a WayFM/Fish mix, but with possibly a narrower (better) playlist and aimed more toward worship songs. I assume it automated, but the "untrained" ear may assume it's live as they talk about Nashville more than either of the other two stations.

Interesting.. Shame EMF isn't streaming this "special version" of KLove. [That's one thing I like about Way FM .. each of their stations have a local stream so you can hear the local content]..

I'd be curious to see the differences and how localized it is.

EMF uses the WEGENER iPump Satellite system for their programming so it's I am guessing it's very easy for them to offer localized content (if they desire) in some markets.. I have heard in the past from others they offer some localized content in Kansas City and Denver markets (that they do very well in).

I noticed last night and this morning that 97.1 is now matching up with Knoxville's K-Love so it appears that the localized version was short-lived.

Just guessing, but is it possible that this was a temporary automated setup until the satellite equipment to carry the regular K-LOVE Network was in place, considering how fast this change happened? I wonder if this has happened in other places where EMF made a quick deal for a new station.

I wish Cumulus would sell one of their Memphis stations to EMF and make it Air 1. EMF just recently put Air 1 on a translator on 96.7 there, but a full power station would be even better and reach into parts of SW TN. My choice would be WKIM 98.9.

They were using regular K-Love programming when they signed on. At first, there were no Nashville references, ID's, local imaging, etc. That came later on Sunday, when they started their "local feed". The I-pump receiver that they employ allows them to put in customized programming for Nashville or any other market from their home base in CA. Why did they do the initial local programming in Nashville and not in other markets? That probably has a lot to do with Way-FM and The Fish already being established Christian AC mainstays in the market.

They provide local streams in 40+ markets. I imagine you'll start hearing a local stream in Nashville soon.

It's handled case by case but that's likely a temporary thing. They may even be streaming the Knoxville K-LOVE stream and re-broadcasting it in the interim.

My understanding is they are looking at Nashville like they look at NYC.. a very very important market.. I would not be surprised if you don't hear a lot of local Nashville references on air.. We all know that Salem's concerned about KLove's presence (they would have not blown up Solid Gospel 104.9 otherwise).

I am guessing at this point recv equipment has arrived at Cumulus Nashville so they can mix local inserts with the network programming, until the sale completes and an MSW (Main Studio Waver) is approved.. the station is still being run at the Cumulus studios even though its just passing thru satellite programming from the iPump.

Agree 100%.

If the sale included the studio facility then they are likely down linking at the studio and using the STL in place. They may choose to keep the studio facility and use it for news and local promotions staff.

Nashville is a BIG market for K-LOVE. Salem flipping it's local station to The Fish is very telling.
