K-Rock Has Dropped A Lot Of The Dinosaur Rock

Anyone else notice that ever since they signed on four weeks ago, WXRK has dropped a great deal of the "retro rock" (as it used to be dubbed in a previous incarnation on 92.3) and upped the number of spins on active hits and alternative gold?

In fact, in the last several hours alone, the oldest songs played according to Yes.com are Led Zep's "Rock and Roll", a Police song, and "The Ecstasy of Gold" at 5:57 am. ;)

What a difference a month - and a PD - makes.

alternative gold? New York Dolls, Iggy, Ramones, Wayne County, punk-ish alternative? that would be HOT!

Oh Christ! Would I love that!!!

Ummm ok great, maaaybe some of that as a smalllll flavor to the real meat of the station.....BUT!

K-ROCK is sounding f'king amazing. The balance is near perfect with the right amount of Dino-rock and all the New Rock! Breaking Benjamin, TOOL, 30 Seconds to Mars, LINKIN PARK, My Chem, Sick Puppies, the new White Stripes? Damn THIS is what a rock station needs to be. The NEXT generation of rock radio fans are ready for this. Respect the Dino-tracks but look forward! This new sound/approach has that "PD IS NOW IN THE BUILDING" written all over it!

And air talent wise it would be good to see/hear some NEW voices come on the air, NOT the same old rock talent of the last 10 years. NEW voices for a new generation (18-34) of rock radio fans. O&A will sound great with a good group of other personalities each with their own identities and vibe.

Are you joking? It still sounds so boring and mundane. There's (maybe) one current played an hour. No new music to look forward to on the station. I've already tuned out...

Bingo! K-Rock is unlistenable. They had their weekend to prove themselves and they failed. I'm even giving up on K-Rock 2 becasue of their shite bitrate. last.fm it is. Come one, where else are you going to hear Haircut 100, the Waitresses, Franz Ferdinand, Mute math, Klaxons etc in high fidelity for free?

What would make WXRK-Rock SOUND EVEN BETTER is to allow the DJ's to be personalities like the old WPLJ instead of liner-card readers.

Thanks,

Also, play new music twice an hour. At least 4 currents an hour. Mix it up a little bit with your gold cuts (as in, try maybe playing a Pearl Jam song that doesn't come off their first 3 discs), drop the classic rock (leave that to Q), add in a top requested songs show, new music hour on Sunday night, and some sort of lunch show. But, then again, what do I know? Oh, right, just what most people would WANT TO HEAR.

You suggest WXRK to do away with something Q can take care of, then follow it up with suggesting two things Q already does. What sense does this make?

Really? Q has a "new music" hour on Sunday playing new music from alternative/rock bands? They also have an all-request lunch hour or 90's flashback hour? If so, than I must have missed something.

Forgive me but LED ZEP ROCK AND ROLL IS Dinosaur Rock....what point are you making? They need to stop playing Zep and start playing AFI, Van Halen, The Red Jumsuit Aparatus..but no more 1960-1972!

they NEED to start playing Iggy, New York Dolls,Wayne County, Ramones, etc...first wave NY Rock Scene...that's what they NEED to do!

Sorry, that's not going to work. Maybe a sprinkling of Ramones here and there but the people interested in haering New York Dolls and Iggy tuned out a long time ago.

Actually, the people that wanted to hear the New York Dolls and Iggy all got into one cab and went downtown years ago.

I noticed that k-rock is playing some stuff that is being played on k-rock. Johnathan Clark should watch what he plays. I really enjoy his show.
secondly I liked k-rock when it had just returned the most. it has become a lot tighter on what they play. I listen to k-rock constantly at work and a lot on the road as well. its the only rock station to listen to. I am getting sick of the heavy rotation songs like some linkin park Daultry, Greenday, smashing pumpking etc. I noticed it looks like there are medium rotational songs as well Like Orgy, and Korn Ratt-round and round. than stuff that is just lost on the playlist that is not in heavy or medium rotation like queensryche, korn-politics, (thank god about 2 weeks ago they stopped playing that daultry song when its over which looked like it was in heavy rotation)
I would really like to see stuff that used to be played on k-rock like Pod, Disturbed ( besides down with the sickness) rammstein, stuff from 2000-2006 era that has disappered and used to be played.
third, I really hope for dj's soon or at least another special weekend like an all request, hair metal, resurection, live weekend/holidays or hell a freecast weekend etc ... those were cool!
fourth, get a heavy metal show to go head on with eddie trunk. he can talk way too much! if they had something head on it could damage q-104.3's reputation for the hard rock metal scene
anyways thats my rant
what do you think?

Happy 4th everyone!!!

Someone said K-Rock was playing less Dinosaur Rock. Uh, no. Just a short time ago I heard Led Zeppelin (wheelchair rock at its finest) followed by Puddle Of Mudd (modern-day Neanderthals - Mullet Rock garbage), followed by AC/DC. I could run off a list of what K-Rock should be playing but isn't, but there's no point in wasting time or energy - K-Rock pretty much has their 200 song playlist etched in stone and it will be largely the same 1, 2, 3, even 10 years from now should it last long enough. I personally think it won't - it is this very bland sound that eroded the audience at K-Rock in the first place, yet CBS is so afraid to move away from it. For their sake I hope they will be content with ratings in the low 2s, tops.

Honestly, for a market that didn't have an active rock station for two years... you guys are complaining about K-rock like it is all wrong. It is sounding great right now, I agree they need to add more currents in but give them a break!!

It's funny to me that the station has been rock again for several months and you guys are killing it already. You are never going to get everything you want (music-wise) on a station, if you are looking for something specific go to satellite!

Jeez give it a chance!!

Kudos to K-Rock, I think they sound great!

I have noticed this with my college radio show. people tune in and then tune out...
us die hard fanatics (pretty much everyone on R-I) listen to the radio way too much lol

Actually, all these bands that were ignored by rock radio in their prime are now heard constantly on movie soundtracks, tv series, radio commercials, and especially tv commercials, Iggy is the KING of tv commercials/songs, with ""Lust For Life","The Passenger","Real Wild One" and "Search And Destroy" to name a few, all being heard from coast to coast in tv commercials;
ignoring these NY roots artists means shutting down an opportunity to sound hot and gain some cred(imagine programming the amazing "You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory" by former NY Doll Johnny Thunders; the song is the ultimate radio song, been used in films, the Sopranos, etc.
,,keep recycling only AC DC and Zep at your own risk, as NO ONE will have fresh incentive to listen(I know that I won't!)
