K Y A A, SOQUEL (AM 1200, MONTEREY BAY) returns as K Y A Oldies

At Midnight Friday night/Saturday morning, the brokered India programming was dropped, and
'50s/'60s oldies (some 1964-70) returned to K Y A A via in-house automation. The oldies
were dropped for the brokered programming about 5 years ago...

There are some classic (original) K Y A (1260) jingles occasionally airing on K Y A A...

So now we have Monterey Bay's K Y A A to add to K Y A F (Firebaugh, San Joaquin Valley),
and the K Y A online station by David Jackson...

Can your heart stand it!?? ;D

That's quite a tribute to the classiest of all AM Rock 'n Rollers!

Now if only they could get those old jocks back as well.......

KYAOnline is, errrrr...Onderful! Plus there's no annoying nighttime fading in Milpitas. 12~Sixty rocks 'round the clock!

Folks:

Listened to the station today in the car. I am in Millbrae about 15-20 miles south of San Francisco. I get a lot of static but can hear the music. Very good sounding playlist. Much better than KFRC 1550.

A tip of the cap to the mighty Jim Vossen, who is at the very least giving it a solid try over at KYAA/1200. It's tough to do anything on a shoestring budget, and I admire that he's working his tail off to try something different. Not sure if it might spark the folks at Oldies 630 (KIDD) to try a bit harder, but it's nice to see a market with two distinct choices in Oldies/Classic Hits programming.

KIDD 630 has changed formats to being an affiliate of ESPN Radio. However 97.9, their sister station still has the oldies format that they briefly simulcast so I guess there are still two oldies stations in that market. I noticed that KYAA has a slightly different format compared to 1550 KFRC. KYAA leans more towards late 50s/early 60s while KFRC (True Oldies Channel) has a lean more towards mid-late 60s/early 70s with a little early 60s sprinkled in. Personally I prefer the late 50s/early 60s format.

KYAA is 25Kw, they put in an ok signal up to about Emeryville, after that it is taken over by hash from KDYA, which is what is heard on 1200 in the North and East Bay.Is it possible that KDYA runs IBOC?

I am guessing this is the same Jim "Vossenova" Vossen who was on KATD-990 before they went Spanish in 2000?

I was surprised to hear Sean O'Callaghan doing the morning drive this morning on KYAA. Will they be "streaming" on the internet anytime soon?
