K104.7 Now Playing More Songs That 102.9TheLake Is Playing

IMO, they'll never be 102.9TheLake, but it's about time K104.7 started programming more of the songs their competitor plays.

This is better why? Wouldn't it be better to give the listener something different? The Lake is better if you like an iPod with commercials. Not much in the way of live humans on the air there anymore is there...that's better? Sorry I just don't follow your reasoning here.

Mike,

I think it's better that K is adding songs that Lake plays, because we both know that they've been competitors for years - even though K is AC & Lake is Adult Hits. Agreed that it would be better to give the listener something different, but being different by programming obscure songs isn't getting K ratings (Latest is Lake 6.9 to K 4.6) It's not better that there are no humans at the Lake, but it's not hurting their ratings. I'd rather have live humans speaking to me like on K, but it's not helping their ratings. It seems like they're trying to catch up. We've all evolved with the technology of 45's, LP's, tapes, carts, CD's, & now almost everything is on the hard drive (songs, breakers, sweepers & spots). You can do a 6 hour gig in an hour or less in the Prod. Rm. with ProTools or NextGen. Technology Killed the Radio Star. If we ran a station, we'd probably do it the same way. $ is the bottom line. The Fox is also IHeart Radio, & I'm surprised they're still live. I think K can improve if they keep the talk to a minimum, play the hits & fix their muddy audio processing chain.

Keep the talk to a minimum....really? I counted it up once while I worked at K and in a typical hour I talked for 90 seconds. There was a top of the hour music bed with what played and what was coming up, a quick backsell at :22, a weather break coming out of commercials, a quick talk over the intro at :37 and a couple of public service/promo announcements at :50. I think the stupid sweepers got more time on the air than I did. Yep, you could VT a 6 hour shift in about an hour and most of that was because we had to move the sweepers away from songs with cold or short intros.

As a listener the number of commercials are what gets to me. Seven commercials in a row is just way too much. Second irritation are stupid liners that really say nothing. Just my opinion. I'd rather hear someone with some interesting facts about the artist or music that they are playing.

America's Best Music usually has something interesting about artists or music when the DJ talks. And while there are frequent commercial breaks if all the breaks are taken, there are six commercials each time. I've gotten used to that. But it's like I said, if they take all the breaks, there are a lot of them.

One of their new DJs wouldn't even hardly acknowledge the music. He'd talk about something happening in celebrity news or something like that, and it might be totally unrelated to the music. I think that's changing.

Given a choice, I'd take better music. WAVO has no DJs, but I can be content with America's Best Music.
