K259BG Chehalis sold to Bustos, for KZGI channel move and power boost.

The "Open Sores" label is well propagated. I would not want to be caught out there when the Cascadia Subduction Zone snaps...

KJET is like a super-translator thanks to South Mountain's elevation. It looks like another possibility for KJET clearance is the KRXY 94.5 antenna site. Any advantage there?

I was driving through the Seattle-Tacoma corridor today, and another possibility that I totally missed hit me. I was checking out the KSWW/102.1 and KJET/105.7 signals.

When I hit South Seattle, after the LPFM clutter dissolved, Bustos' translator for KMIA on 102.1 started cutting in on KSWW. Then I remembered that Bustos is involved in all this, and they have a track record of single-frequency networks (and working with move-in signals).

Pairing KSWW with the KMIA translator would give them a single-frequency network that extends beyond any service grade contour KSWW could provide if it moved into the South Sound.

So here's a second speculative shuffle:
  • 106.5 to Ocean Shores/Sores
  • 102.1 to South Puget Sound, and transfers to Bustos
  • 102.1 forms a single-frequency network with K271BS and future boosters
  • 105.7 goes directional towards Bremerton/Seattle (made possible by Bustos' KZGI)

As an aside and explaining what I mean by "Open Sores"; years ago I contemplated buying a station in that town. It stands to reason being a fishing/vacation community that local advertisers operate seasonally, as would the radio station, but it was seriously bad. Local businesses were seemingly always living on the ragged edge of insolvency, and the poor collections reflected that trend. There was a lot of interest in advertising on the station during the tourist season, then not much interest in being willing to pay when the bill came due. The beaches there were becoming less appealing too, as compared with Oregon beaches right down the road. Rumors of hypodermic needles washing up on shore, reports of broken glass injuries, and tons of cruise ship trash washing ashore, were killing the reputation. Pretty much all that was left was the fishing business, but many of those who worked in the area didn't live in the area, so local businesses only really saw tourism. After I saw the down-trending interest in that community, I decided to run away.
Ahh yes, just what I wanted when at the beach… hypodermic needles in the sand.

I love the coast there, but it really does seem like an economically difficult area, with the tiny seasonal exception of Seabrook.
Even Seabrook is a little disappointing. The people who vacation there have to have somewhat deep pockets though, so hopefully that will help out a bit. I’m not really sure who would want to pay that much to stay in some cottage that doesn’t even look at the ocean though.

I wonder if we're totally overcomplicating this. It's entirely possible that KJET will simply end up in the hands of Bustos, who will upgrade the signal as much as possible with no other moves.

The thing that doesn't make sense there is that the owners of 106.5/Raymond basically paid for 105.7/Sedro Wooley to move to 96.9 with a $30k asset.

And again...no bueno. 102.1 isn't moving to Tacoma, or Auburn, or whatever south King/Pierce city it wants to establish its license in. It's always been a Grays Harbor frequency, at least since the '90s. Contour 'on paper' would mess with KPQ-FM. There needs to be boundaries.
Ocean Shores has Quinault Beach Resort & Casino...well, Ocean City. And 102.1 covers Westport/Grayland just fine. Lots of tourism in Westport, fishing and otherwise. The IGA in O.S. is a money trap and always has been...everyone travels to Aberdeen for groceries.

I like nearby Pacific Beach because it ISN'T a tourist trap. Would I want to stay in a beach town full of souvenir stores and backed-up tourist traffic...or collect sand dollars on the beach with a seldom few folks walking dogs early in the morning?
Besides you *CAN'T* go wrong with KXPB-LP and Wacky Warehouse. It's like the Ace Hardware/NAPA/St. Vincent de Paul/Big Lots of the town all in one.

Now, Taholah is not a place I would enjoy. We got lots of dirty looks from locals as we were driving by, many years ago when my family was there. It was around the Fourth, so lots of fireworks stands operated by the reservation. I respect the Natives of course, but it's so isolated that it gets far less tourism than Westport or Long Beach.

I agree, Pacific Beach was an awesome place to visit the last time I was out there. I probably wouldn’t bother with Ocean Shores, but there are some decent places to stay out there. Iron Springs is among my favourite places to stop. Seabrook is a pass because it felt more like a tourist trap. Regardless, Seabrook seems to be breathing some air into that area, and if it helps the surrounding communities do better, I’m all for it. Tahola seems like an interesting place to visit, but I’m under the impression that outsiders are not supposed to do so. I made a wrong turn out there once and encountered a sign telling anyone not local to turn around immediately. Needless to say, I followed the directions. In Canada, I’ve been told that you’re not supposed to go to a reservation lane, period.

Back to the topic of Grays Harbor radio: I’m no expert on Bill’s motives, but I would imagine that it would imagine that there’s no way in hell that 102.1 ever moves.

The Raymond allocation 106.5 went to H&S, the same people behind the Chehalis translator and KRHR Odell-Hood River.. As is 106.5 is locked but this thread speculates a lot of possibilities.

105.7 could go to Bustos or not. 102.1 I believe will remain the same since it works. I think 107.3 will also remain the same for now and will keep its current morning show which is syndicated from KQMV. 105.7 no longer relays KANY and now relays KSWW probably cause Josheda Broadcasting chose to do that recently.
