KASB: The Last Person Out Should Have turned Off The Transmitter

What a useless waste of a frequency! KASB is repeatedly running a few Zero Period shows, presumably all summer. Isn't there a dispensation so that a school station can shut down all summer without penalty? They should do it, either so we could hear the Enumclaw? station on the frequency, or even nothing.
Mind you, I'm not down on the show; it's just not productive to have the same few hours play over and over again.
Now that we've heard those programs sincelate May, maybe someone responsible for KASB should have the engineer turn off the transmitter till the school year starts?
Don't get me wrong, student stations serve a useful purpose. But rerunning a few programs for weeks, maybe months, doesn't. And frankly, it doesn't teach students about professional radio standards either.

If you want to hear nothing...turn the switch to 'OFF'.
 
Um, no, KXRX. Having nothing on the frequency would allow me and others to hear distant stations when they come in. Much more productive than a loop of the same programs over and over again, ad infinitum. They might come in occasionally, but at least their programming would be fresh.
 
I remember last year KASB went off the air in the summer, but I think it was for a remodel of Bellevue High School. With that I could have an easier open channel for Tropo and Sporadic E, with only KGRG on. For example, quite a few times I got KUNM Albuqerque, New Mexico while during the off period, via sporadic E.

Actually Bellevue High has been remodeling THIS year ... so not sure if last summer's issues were started that early or not. Sadly, I cruise by the Bellevue remodel projects as a fun thing to do .. and I don't think they are ready to move classrooms to the new wing yet...so maybe another summer of dx-ing!
