KBMB bombed for being too ethnic, despite good ratings? Get real, Lieberman!

After Entravision bought KBMB, the officials routinely went about disassembling the predominantly African American air staff. The sentiments expressed by Entravision head of Radio programming Jeff Lieberman were that the station was just too ethnic to compete in Sacramento (this, despite the Bomb's history of ratings success with a predominantly African American cast of characters). A pronounced push to make the station more Latin oriented began with the hiring of a nearly all Latin air staff and the infusion of Spanish into the station's imaging. The Doug Banks Show was dropped in favor of Big Boy's Neighborhood morning show, before that, too, was dropped.

What the hell is this? I'm surprised Jeff doesn't think Latin is too ethnic to compete in Sacramento!

But now look how Rhythmic has failed on 103.5!

Bring Urban back to Sacramento, I don't give a donkey's @$$ what Lieberman so foolishly thinks!

Did you barely found out that Entra-lack-of-vision has made stupid things like this before? They killed our Indie 103.1 with another stupid station that isn't even doing well. KBMB is just a failure, I hope the company plus the station die in radio hell. For crying out loud, even Clear Channel and Cumulus do smart ideas unlike these stupid idiots at Entra-lack-of-vision.

Word up. KBMB, now KHHM, is horrible. They're all over the place. They'll play mostly dance music and a lot of garbage KSFM doesn't even play, followed up with some hip-hop and old school. They're terrible. I want the old 103.5 back, or a station that can resemble that station back in the late 90s through 2004 with hip-hop, R&B, basically urban contemporary. The closest to any urban station that does well in Sac is 101.1, but they mainly play old school.

Abbot and Costello, i mean Allyson and Liberman are CLUELESS and let The Patty's of the world continue to run off good people. You wouldn't believe some of the SHIT Liberman and his henchmen are doing in El Paso. Can you say ILLEGAL?

It's his radio station and he will do what he wants with it! Profits or no profits!

Add to that ratings or no ratings! Just because a radio station has high ratings (like progressive talk KSAN-AM, now gospel KRJY-AM) doesn't mean it'll earn advertising profits! And nor did it!

You mean to tell me Jeff Lieberman doesn't care about how much ratings/profits 103.5 makes as a Rhythmic compared to an Urban?
I'll pick no profits (or a least smaller profits) as a Rhythmic! And if so, he's up the creek!

What a fool!
He changed the format for, in his foolish opinion, being too ethnic to compete in the 'Mento? Ouch!

i wouldn't blame Lieberman for everything. it was someone else in the building calling the shots and changing things.

KBMB was actually bombed in 2004. One example, they can't compete with KSFM since there still Class B frequency. Showcase of Hardcore didn't help, R&B adult didn't wow anyone's mood, best songs at 7PM not getting anyone to listen.

103.5 comes back as urban. They need to get Big Tigger from WGPC to go syndication. This DJ has done a phenomenal job as a video jockey at BET Rap City. Big Tigger would fit as morning syndicated DJ.

Like Big Tigger will increase their ratings. Syndicated shows except for Doug Banks during their run have not done well on 103.5 (i.e. Big Boy, Baka Boyz). 103.5 never really competed with KSFM with frequency, but did give them a run for their money in the ratings. This station was at their best, noriety and ratings wise when they were strictly hip-hop and R&B from 98-2004, with some hardcore hip-hop and lots of real R&B. So, I don't know where you're going with this.

I remember how KBMB started out. Every week we had to yank our antennas to a different direction. What I discovered real hip hop. Good years gone to waste because of their poor mismanagement.

Yes, I remember when they first went on air, their signal wasn't strong until late 1998. Poor management led to the demise of 103.5 in 2004, which were sold by Entravision, and things got worse. But those first six years were the best before Entravision and outsider DJs ruined it.

Does anyone know if the station is making more or less money now than at the peak of its programming popularity?
