KBSU-AM/Boise SOLD to FM Idaho

Boise’s jazz-and-news AM is going away on July 15, as Boise State University sells its only AM, KBSU (730). July 15 is when the LMA begins with buyer FM Idaho Co. LLC, doing business as Impact Radio Group. It’s led by Wendell Starke. They’re getting an AM with 15,000 watts daytime and 500 at night, and Boise State no longer needs the facility. It’s running the typical tandem of public radio services on its two full-power FMs – news and talk on KBSX (91.5), classical on KBSU-FM at 90.3. As for the jazz on KBSU-AM, the school may feel it’s got that covered with the Jazz Works full-time stream on the HD-2 channel of KBSU-FM, and of course online. The deal is for $165,000 cash, and Boise State is using the Exline Company as its broker.

LMA takes effect when:

ARTICLE 1
PROGRAMMING AGREEMENT
1.1 Programmer Programming. Subject to the FCC's grant of a license application
converting the Station from non-commercial to commercial (the "Conversion Application," as
more fully described and defined in the APA), during the term of this Agreement, Licensee
agrees to make the broadcasting transmission facilities of the Station available to Programmer
commencing at 12:00 o’clock midnight on July 15, 2011 (unless the Conversion Application has
not yet been approved in which case on the first business day following the date on which the
Conversion Application is granted)
(the “Commencement Date”), for the broadcast of
Programmer's programs. Programmer hereby agrees to provide and Licensee agrees (subject,
however, to the provisions of this Agreement, whereby Licensee retains ultimate control of the
programming broadcast by the Station) to transmit on the Station news, sports, informational or
entertainment programming and associated advertising, promotional, public service
programming and announcement matter sufficient, except as otherwise provided herein, to
program the Station twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and in accordance with FCC
requirements (the “Programmer Programming”), except for such time periods that are expressly
reserved to Licensee in accordance with Section 2.1.6.

A modification of their license was granted July 14th. Doesn't say non-commercial on it anymore.

Speculation about the format of the former KBSU-AM is a News/Talk station that's aimed towards Business Talk and a simulcast of La Ponderosa 100.7 FM or 1380 The Bull out of Ontario.

I think a Nostalgia station would be kinda cool. Can Impact operate the former KBSU-AM as a Non-Commercial station?

The web address http://newsradio730am.com has been registered by Impact Radio Group. "Newsradio 730 KINF" is the image. TRN Radio Network talent Laura Ingraham's website lists 730 KINF as an affiliate carrying her show from 10am to 1pm. Also confirmed as of Monday, The Phil Hendrie Show coming back to Boise from 11pm-4am on NewsRadio 730 KINF!

It would seem as if the sale of KBSU-AM was a pretty swift deal. Does Impact even have the studio space for another control room set-up? Who is doing the pattern changes and transmitter logs for this station while it runs on auto-pilot?

It would also seem this effort already lacks creativity. All someone would need is a PC with an Internet connection, an audio card and a couple of basic scripts to automate TRN's Four Web Streams to get some programming on the air.

It would seem a more appropriate loop on the air would be Chubby Checker's 'Limbo Rock'...

This is the first image spot/promo I've heard since the former KBSU-AM started playing the Michael Jackson 'Thriller' loop on the air. Versions of this promo are now airing between loops of 'Thriller'..

Along with the already announced programming of the TRN Radio Network's Laura Ingraham from 10am to 1pm and The Phil Hendrie Show from 11pm to 4am, this promo states that "NewsRadio AM730 KINF" will also feature the America's Morning News block and America's Radio News Network..

Does KINF have a phone number anywhere? Thanks!
